Lol no more Porn in GA. The anti porn bill just passed.

I'm curious if any of you who are all for no restrictions on porn access have or recently have had kids in the 5 to 15 age bracket? Because whether you personally watch porn or not, I can't see how a parent can be ok with their kid(s) having easy access to it. Somebody explain to me how that's a good thing.

Yes, I know there are kids that will find a way to access it. But, there are plenty of kids who aren't going out of their way trying to find it, and I'd prefer it not be popping up in what should be innocent web searches, ads, etc., then accessible to anyone with just a click.

No phone access for kids may work for some families, but technology is only increasing for school work, communication, etc., so access to computers, ipads, etc., is going to be a part of life for kids whether you like it or not.

So, for me, the more protection for the kids, the better.

I also don't get the data breach argument. Most people have credit cards and online banking info saved online.

Pretty sure your data is already easily accessible.

The difference is that the information would be embarrassing if people found out. We're talking about free porn sites here, because if you are paying for it, your info is already on file. People hacking free porn sites are only going to do it to shame people who use the website.

It probably is secure, but how about what that data gets used for ie distributed to lists for junk mail etc.
Because of the private nature of pornography and what it's typically used for, the majority of large porn companies aren't selling your information. Your cell phone provider and internet company don't have anything worthy that they need to hide... Porn companies/websites have A LOT to hide.

So because parents don't want to parent, government should impose restrictions on other adults. Feels like people have to register as a sex offender to watch porn. Maybe they'll be a database where you can find a list of people who enjoy porn and shame them. I wouldn't put it past the ultra-religious lobbyists to do this.

I have a 15 year old daughter. While I personally remain uninvolved with the conversations, she and her mother talk very candidly about that stuff. And I would do the talking if it was a son instead of a daughter. It's up to you/us, the parents, to have uncomfortable conversations about sex with our children. Always has been.

Parental controls

Are all of you porn defenders ok with your daughters, sisters, mothers, and wives working in that industry?
Define industry? It's quite a bit different than the days of Boogie Nights. People have options that don't involve the big companies at all now. Because of that the big companies treat the people better now.

I don't buy that for a second. My guess is you, or someone on that computer, was looking at something similar and it used your cookies or something. I've done that from my phone with my nieces and nephews on multiple occasions to *insert Disney/Pixar character* to look at pictures and not once found anything remotely pornographic.

Edit: In a less accusatory manor, like wise, if you use duck duck go or incognito mode you don't have any previous data to filter out the scum of the internet.
I don’t know what to tell you. My work computer, always on safe mode, searched Shrek and it was among the images on the first page. It happened. Regardless, it doesn’t take away from the fact that porn is too accessible to kids.

On a serious note. This feels like left wing over reach of government. But, something to make it more difficult for kids to access porn is a net positive imo.

Just like gun control. Personally, I don’t like government over reach, but anything to make it more difficult for idiots to buy guns is a positive.

I can't think of any redeeming qualities to porn. It is destructive.

Same for fast food. Being fat is also bad mentally, physically, and economically on the country and citizens. Larger and worse effect than porn. Whole lot of fat people walking around. Statistically if you are fat your children will be as well - leading to early death and diseases. The Gov should ban all fast food and excess trans fat/sugar products. Some of you people can't help yourselves just like with porn so let me make the choice for you

When I was a teen, we had the dictionary and the encyclopedia... We figured it out just fine... No need for porn to be easily accessible to children... Especially in school... If you adults want to watch porn, use a VPN or give up your ID... It's time we removed the pedophiles from the teacher's unions as well, starting at the top...

That's exactly the opposite of a free country. But you love America.

These southern states with conservative super majorities passing this legislation feels like left wing overreach to you? Is that what you're saying?

Tl;dr, porn sites are required to collect documentation that the viewer of ladies without clothes showing boobies and booty is of age. All the websites have said they will just block users from any state that enacts this.

God Bless America
Wait, so all of you are against making it tougher for a 10 year old not be able to access porn websites whether on purpose or intentionally?

Seriously?

But nice click bait lying thread title, MSNBC would be proud of you.

I work on the internet. I'm literally browsing hundreds of web pages per day, including social media accounts that are NSFW.

how are people finding porn with innocent searches? I've been working in my field for a decade and I've yet to accidentally find porn. I just don't believe this happens.

The porn industry is ****ing horrific and I truly feel terrible for the young men/women that end up doing it. There's a few netflix documentaries that cover what it's like being in porn and it's some of the saddest shit i've ever seen. The amount of drugs, mental and physical abuse, and sexual assault/forced persuasion that takes place in the industry is staggering. If I could i'd shut the whole industry down and ban it.

That being said, the onus is on the parent, not the gov't, to regulate what their children watch. Quit being lazy parents and utilize child locks/site banning/etc on your children's electronic devices.

Gonna be a lot of churches that get taken down if that's what we're doing

you think Muslims approve of porn? To put this solely on Christians is so weird.
Obviously you're not familiar with the religion where some follow polygamy and have 4 wives.

With 4 women why would you need porn
Uh Huh Wow GIF by Bounce

All of this. It's a gross, despicable industry. And I don't mean to diminish the importance of kids not being exposed to porn that is readily available on the internet, but "protect the kids" has always been the cause, whether it was rock & roll music, MTV, video games or whatever.

There's a reason "oh won't somebody please think of the children!!" is featured so prominently in the satire of The Simpsons. And from Helen Lovejoy no less.

Yes. I’m more for people making their own decisions and less government involvement in a general sense.

But in a personal sense, I think making porn less accessible to kids or guns less accessible to nuts or stricter drug/alcohol laws and major fines for speeding for safer roads, etc is probably overall good for society.

Can't watch people do the huck a buck but Gangsta rap talking about smoking crack, beating the shit out of women and killing cops is readily available on many platforms. Make it make sense.

That's the funny thing about this argument.

Take the porn away because my child might become a sexual deviant.

Hell no don't take my guns even though my child has the potential to end someone's life with it.

I'll take the sexual deviant that is into some kinky stuff but isn't harming anyone.

Agree, if we are sensoring shit because children lets not dip our toe in the water.

I agree that porn is too accessible. At my high school, 06, towards the end of the year I wanted to see if I could see some boobs while goofing off in a class because I was done with my work. It took about 5 minutes to trick the filter. TBF I was 18. The teacher loved as I was one of her favorite students. She laughed at what I was doing; I did tell her. I told the class "you may or may not see a topless woman if you google XYZ"; the teacher responded with y'all have about 30 seconds for me to turn a blind eye before you're banned from accessing a computer. The loophole was closed by the end of the period.

This is not the road we want to go down. All you gun lovers shouldn't either. This is like step 1 on the road to extreme gun control.

I kinda have some libertarian leanings and think adults should be able to do whatever they want (within the confines of the law of course), but I'm all for us as a nation doing all we can to keep kids from being exposed to hardcore pornography. Same thing with social media sites like instagram (have age verification with no one under 16 allowed on the platform). Both have been proven to be harmful to kids.

It probably would be more effective at the federal level, but I'm for it. Call me old fashioned or whatever.
Personally, I think the best way to protect kids from porn is to give them access to more porn, and in general have more porn produced. The more porn that’s out there, the more people that have access to porn, the safer we will all be.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with porn is a good guy with porn.
