Swinney Camp Insider II

CLEMSON -- The Dabo Swinney Camp kicked off Wednesday morning with an appealing opening round of guests.

It starts with quarterback at Clemson, as we like to say. And thus we'll start ... and camp started ... with the frontrunning contender for the program's first offer at the position.

Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy four-star George MacIntyre threw for offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and the coaches.

MacIntryre (6-5, 180) is as his measurables suggest. He's tall, and he's lean.

But based on our viewing window, this is not a common case of a quarterback with prototype height who has just a bang average arm. Nor is MacIntyre a kid with size who has a rifle but no touch in using it.

MacIntyre made his sideline throws effortlessly and with relatively wasted motion.

What you trade off in a thicker frame ready to take the pounding of several designed runs, you make up for or more than compensate with in projectable passing ability. Which, in a Riley system, is the No. 1 desirable trait.

And why you've seen other pass-heavy elites like Tennessee, LSU and Alabama value him, too.

Clemson's first 2025 offers go out tomorrow.

We consider MacIntyre among the top two quarterback candidates along with Lawrence (Mass.) Central Catholic's Blake Hebert.

As we've reported, we don't anticipate Clemson going on a quarterback for this class as circumstances stand. But it's not as if the right prospect couldn't convince them otherwise.

Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville three-star Kamari McClellan participated Wednesday in an effort to do just that.

McClellan saw his options disappear after a disappointing junior season which some have partially chalked up to changes on his high school coaching staff.

We don't think McClellan made a serious run at getting Clemson to pull the trigger, at least based off our observation window.

But McClellan did throw better than we had seen in previous camp settings and turned in a solid showing. The kind of performance that compels you to give a look again once McClellan gets senior game film and has the chance to compete against real defenses again.

In our eyes, the biggest development of the session occurred at tight end.

Clemson has its 2024 guy in four-star Christian Bentancur, who rubber-stamped the Tigers' pursuit with his camp outing last summer.

As Kyle Richardson sets his sights on his next target, the prospect we went into Wednesday eyeing closest was Washington (Okla.) four-star Nate Roberts.

Roberts (6-4, 225), ranked No. 160 in the country, has landed offers the last three weeks from Alabama, Ohio State and Auburn.

That said, the guy who grabbed our attention was Rabun Gap (Ga.) Rabun Gap-Nacochee's Marshall Pritchett.

Pritchett (6-5, 210) holds offers from UNC, Boston College, Vanderbilt and USC.

As we mentioned last month, he is a Charleston, S.C., native who trains with former Clemson tight end Brandon Ford. He transferred from Porter Gaud a year ago and reclassified from the 2024 to 2025 class.

In a move we hadn't seen at previous Swinney Camps, both tight ends were eventually pulled over to the receiver group to work with the best quarterbacks for routes on air.

Simply, we thought Pritchett repeatedly demonstrated superior agility and snagged everything thrown his way.

Stock up.

As we shared this morning, the prospect we knew we'd write about one way or another was McDonough (Ga.) Eagle's Landing Christian Academy tackle Favour Edwin.

Edwin (6-7, 290) always stood to ace the eyeball test. Which is why Florida has offered along with Georgia Tech.

He's also never played football, and he's a Nigerian import who's primary background is in basketball.

So he you know he's going to be raw going in, and the counselors as well as strength coaches putting prospects through drills had to walk him through various routines that other linemen knew.

But there looked like some decent clay with which to work. He could bend and move, which is a starting point most his size struggle to obtain.

Of course, he hails from the same school from which Clemson just signed another large lineman in Zack Owens -- a school, we've said, at which the Tigers have equity.

We saw enough to consider Edwin a name worth revisiting down the road, especially depending on Clemson's returns in the coming weeks as it seeks to score at least three of the six official visitors coming this weekend.

A couple of prominent additions to today's visitor list:

Cocoa (Fla.) rising junior defensive end Javion Hilson arrived a day earlier than he had previously stated.

Hilson (6-4, 230) was one of the major stock-risers through the spring. Ohio State, Miami and LSU offered this month, joining Tennessee, Florida State and Penn State.

You could see why they offered with Hilson's range in a couple of mobility drills.

He was joined at defensive end by Jacksonville (Fla.) Providence Day's Sam Hayward. Hayward (6-4, 225) has offers from Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, and Iowa State -- where his father played.

Another significant junior worked out in Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star safety Hylton Stubbs.

Stubbs (6-2, 185), ranked No. 76 overall, has offers from Florida State, Florida, Miami, USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma and more.

He is loose-limbed and fluid for his high-cut frame.

The Swinney Camp features another workout this afternoon, after which Tigerillustrated.com will have another update on the proceedings.
