This is similar to a previous thread about health insurance as a contractor, but I am hoping to get some insight for those who retired before 65. I am currently 54 (turn 55 in May), with a target of retiring when I am 58. That will leave 7ish years of paying health insurance for my wife, myself and my daughter. I looked at the Gov't healthcare and was shocked to see costs of $1500+ with deductibles 15K+....it was horrible.
My house will be paid off in March of 2024 and it looks like Insurance costs will almost be as much as my house payment.
Anyone else been in this spot? Did you decide to work longer? Are there cheaper options?
I can probably afford it, but it would take a BIG chunk of the retirement savings and I am just curious as to what others have done.
