First off, i want to congratulate the offense overall for their performance tonight. To go on the road against arguably the best defense in CFB that has only allowed 4 passing TDs in 13 games when you have ZERO run game and still produce was impressive. I am firmly looking at our sieve-like defense once again in terms of this loss.
That said, can someone explain to me what we were doing in the 4th quarter when we had 3rd and goal and 4th and goal from the 1 yard line basically? We are playing maybe the best DL in the country, if not the best defense at all 3 levels. We are operating without our 230 pound sledgehammer RB and his backup RB. Our QB is an effective runner but not a Cam Newton-like hoss.
Why in the hell did we once again on third down go jumbo package and then run Cade to the short side of the field?
Then when that got stuffed, we doubled down on fourth down with a pistol diamond set where freaking Briningstool was the lead blocker for our 3rd string RB.
Did we learn nothing from that stupid 4th down and 1 call in the first quarter of the Carolina game? In that game we went jumbo set and ran a compromised Mafah into the teeth of their stout defense and got no points.
I just don't get it. Cade obviously can hurt people with his legs, but if QB run is the call, why not spread the formation out so he has lanes or hell at least give him the wide angle so he can use his quickness to get the edge. We had a golden opportunity to cut the lead to 7 again with ~8 minutes left. Why did we choose to bunch their defense up and make it easier for them to stuff us?
