For reimbursement, I’ve read where you’re supposed to use the school’s published cost of attendance for housing as the amount regardless of the actual cost of rent/utilities. Conversely, been told by a CPA to use the actual rent/utilities as long as they’re reasonable (i.e. a normal apartment and not some posh penthouse).
Clemson COA for housing is considerably less than my daughter’s rent and she’s in an older apartment, so definitely not the newer, more expensive stuff. So if using the COA, it’s well short of my actual costs.
I want to hear the TI experts’ opinions on this.
