Addiction and narcissism

I would think so. With a narcissist, everything is about themselves, even helping other people, etc. For an addict, everything is about that next fix.
In both situations, feels like both are obsessed with reaching their individual goals (self or fix) and will manipulate, distort, whatever to reach it.
Think slight difference is that it seems to be who the narcissist is, whereas the addict could potentially break the addiction and “snap out of the cycle” easier.
What do you mean from the Christian point of view as it relates to that question specifically?
I don't know.... My intuition is that narcissism is associated with self-admiration. I suspect addiction on the other hand is often associated with self-loathing.
One more discussion to back this up....
At some point the addict moves. They are on the path of self-destruction. They are often depressed and know they are destroying themselves and they continue to use despite this fact, perhaps because of this fact. This to me is incompatible with narcissism. A narcissist is obsessed with themselves. They love what the see in the mirror and generally would not willfully embark on such a self-destructive path.
I am speaking more of the narcissistic traits. The never being accountable, the lying , the gas lighting, the twisting a situation and pointing the finger back at the victim and the smear tactics to protect their fragile ego.
I believe some of these characteristics can be a result of drugs. I think addiction and narcissism can go hand in hand and if you get clean from drugs; possibly a lot of those narcissistic traits may go away. That’s what I’m interested in. But the addict/ narcissist need God for help and they are impossible to deal without the armor of God. Because they act like the devil.

I definitely think a narcissist and an addict will show a lot of the same traits (manipulation, gaslighting, not caring what boundaries they cross to get what they want). Absolutely. But like you said, I’ve seen people beat addiction and be completely different people after they’re out. Whereas I’ve honestly never seen a narcissist not later be a narcissist.
What has been tough with narcissist for me is they are often extremely generous and kind at times, but it typically doesn’t end up lasting and is at it’s heart because of the attention they get from being generous and kind.
I think it’s more only caring about yourself than self-admiration alone. I’ve known some narcissists to not necessarily like themselves and to wallow in self pity etc. Everything is about them, people out to get them, and everything that is hard about their life or even who they are isn’t their fault etc.

This particular person didn’t seem to be a full blown narcissist before addiction. Drugs can do terrible things. And in my experience in dealing with an addict…even if they beat the opiate addiction and still smoke marijuana and pop Xanax…it’s a recipe for disaster. Xanax causes anger.
