This is why this needs to happen. The community needs to gather together and demonstrate that this is not what Clemson is about.
God bless you for your Good heart and tolerance. I mean that with the utmost sincerity. However, your well intended idea of not seeing color of skin is at the very heart of a system of structural racism. It assumes that black and brown people have the same opportunities in the justice system, the economy, and the U.S. system in general. This is a miscalculation on the part of a majority of godly and decent white people. The Amy Cooper incident is a classic example: I seriously doubt this lady was overtly a racist person. Yet, in the moment in which it was convenient, she weaponized that mans blackness against him knowing that the threat of calling the police on a black man having a disagreement with a white woman would most likely frighten him because it would likely go badly for him. So discounting race is not the way to move forward. Recognizing and admitting to the challenges black Americans face daily would be a much better lesson for your sons. This is not a moral judgement of you because from reading your post I believe you are likely a good god fearing person. The issue here is that it is difficult to see through the “status quo” when it has little to no effect on you personally. If you have trusted black acquaintances, please ask them if they think they can afford not to see or recognize skin color. I would love to know what you find out.

There are lots of people of all “races” who would disagree with you, and who would say that the goal should ultimately be the abolition of race as a social construct. If that’s the case, then continuing to reify race by treating it as determinative of many things will only prolong inequality.

Black Lives Matter (when Dems want your vote). This is all political. If black lives matter what is this group doing about all the black teenagers that are murdered in Chicago every week? All murders are equally wrong. A huge amount of money raised by BLM goes to ACTBlue which is a liberal group that gives money to liberal Democrat political candidates.
