I am in an a debate with a friend of mine regarding automatic qualification for the college football playoff. Hypothetically , Is there a scenario where two or more group of five conference champions, ranked ahead of a power 4 champion, would get the automatic bids and the P4 champ not receive an automatic bid. I’m under the impression that all 4 of the P4 champs get an automatic bid and the highest ranked G5 champ gets an automatic bid (5 automatic bids in total
), but the Top 4 ranked get a bye. My friend thinks only the Top 5 conf champs get an automatic bid, even if it’s 2 G5 champs.
