Ok, if an answer is to be had this board is the place to go.

Can anyone give advice on how to research/correct background check info that is linked to your name when it isn't correct?

Here is the scenario, my wife is in the interview process with a company who offered her the position and they asked if they could do a background check. She of course says sure, I've got nothing there that would show up as she's an upstanding citizen.

Well the company uses some private investigative firm to do the background check and it came back with some things for names similar to hers from 10 plus years prior. They are things like improper display of plates, something called dog at large, but there is a shoplifting charge. The names associated are similar, first/last the same but different middle initial, Last name her maiden name but first name different. These things are all from another state she grew up in but hasn't lived there for over 15+ years.

The shoplifting charge shows that the person was arrested, charged and pled guilty and got a 90 day sentence and probation in 2012. The company is now saying they won't hire her because of this information.

Is there some way to get access to a mugshot? While it might be exciting to some to have an outlaw wife/girlfriend mine is upset that this type of info is somehow coming back in this background check.

This info is all in the state of Virginia and I was able to do a records search myself and it turned up these same results. How common is it for background check info to be linked when it is just similar names?

Any insight is appreciated.
