The announcers said during the game that Chase had been selected to take the critical shot at the end of games 13 times over the last 2 seasons. Make it 14 now. Chase is an incredible athlete, but this has to change.

If you are the opposing coach your strategy is simple. Keep your bigs in position to get to the basket before Chase does. I’m happy with Chase going to the basket one on one and sometimes one on two, but going to the basket on 2, 3, or 4 guys while you’re giving up 4 to 8 inches doesn’t fly.

When players collapse on Chase someone has to be wide open. The only pass I’ve seen thrown was to Clark at the top of the key last year. He hadn’t played much and the shot he put up was more of a concrete block as opposed to a brick.

We have the shooters. Put your best shooters in the game and put them in position to be open if the defense collapses on Chase. Give Chase options. When the ball is shot, every player on the team needs to go hard for the rebound. This needs to be drilled so it is automatic.

I haven’t reviewed all 14 attempts, but my memory says our success rate is way below 50%. It doesn’t have to be.

PS: If Chase doesn’t take the shot I’m happy with him lurking near the basket for a put back.
