Is it because the government has lost all trust? I believe so. I believe it is the direct result of the Government lying to the people and they are no longer trusted. The invention of social media disrupted their control of the narrative.
I wouldn't say 100% lying. But maybe like 85% lying and 15% outright incompetence.

You're not wrong, government distrust has been at an all time high the past few decades (though it's always been the case, has it not?).
Conspiracy theorists found a home in Social Media, to your point. Then Trump and his MAGA cult coopted the Conspiracy theorists and folded them into their ideology and here we are.
This is how we got to MAGA imo- the right was savvy enough to fold them in, double down and stoke the conspiracy theorist fires, while keeping Trump and co. on the outside of said conspiracies. This is also why MAGA isn't really conservative/Republican- It's its own (in my opinion extremely dangerous) thing.
MAGA is just Trump ideology with Conspiracies folded in to control the masses.

Not me since I'm not Catholic. He was a very large reformer in the Catholic Church so he was pretty polarizing within the faith from what I understand.
