just caught the tail end of Brian Kelly’s press conference. Lots of questions about NiL and what the staffs plans are re: to take a QB this late in signing period with recent QB defection to Michigan. Kelly pointed out they’re always like to take a QB every cycle, but they are not going to rush to get someone before next weeks signing oeriod. He said there are two more signing periods - with February and portal - and there is no rush. Without mentioning Underwood’s name, he said they have a lot more money to throw around to targeted players. He said with the exception of the first year he came in as new coach and there were a ton of transfers out of the program, which required him to go to use the portal to fill out his roster, he said he has built his roster on signing HS players - and that because of that, they have been “well below the cap.” However, he mentioned revenue sharing coming up and said they are in a great position to use “all the money under their cap” to be very aggressive with the portal. He said LSU will be “very, very aggressive” in the portal this offseason.
Anyway, the vibe I get in Baton Rouge with the LSU fanbase is very similar to what I get when I read about our tigers on here. It’s been a disappointing season for both teams and both teams have gotten burned recently with NIL. Although I would say LSU is still light years ahead of Clemson in buying players as they currently have a top 5 class. But their fan base is pissed after what happened with Underwood and now some of the current attempts to poach the other 5 stars by Oregon, Michigan and UGA. However, I thought it was interesting to hear Brian Kelly come out and be as public and vocal about what they plan to go this off-season to shore up their issues - particularly in the trenches - he a d his staff have apparently gotten the message that we all hope Dabo will get very soon.
