Can someone please explain this Russia bounty thing?

Because I'm confused about what the uproar is all about.

Russia is NOT our friend. They have nuclear weapons pointed at us (and vice versa). We've spent most of the last 70 years in a proxy war with them over being the dominate country in the world. Putin works against US interests around the world every day. Is anyone surprised that they offer cash to anyone that can cause us trouble (in this case killing our troops)?

Would anyone be surprised if we did the same thing back in the 1980s when the then USSR invaded Afghanistan? I wouldn't be... we dumped weapons in that country like peanuts.

Now Trump claims that he didn't know about it. Trump lies a lot, but that doesn't mean he's lying THIS time. Maybe he knew and maybe he didn't... It does seem like a big thing to leave out of a briefing or to forget that you've been told it. So who knows. What really matters is what are you going to DO about it. And we all know that Trump holds Putin in pretty high regard. He's not going to change the way he reacts and deals with Russia based on this. So we are not going to do a thing.

I'm not sure why this is even news. We all know that this is a pretty Pro Trump board (with some very loud exceptions... like me). Is there ONE PERSON that is pro Trump on this board that would change their vote based on this? Let's say that tape came out tomorrow that showed the President being briefed on this bounty. And he did nothing. Anyone feel any different about Trump? I'd be STUNNED if he lost any part of his base over this.

AND this is what's going to get our asses ****ED up. Russia is NOT our friend, they are our enemy. They work against us EVERY day. Putin will take any advantage we offer him and use it against us. The sooner we realize that the better. I don't discount China, and I think Trump (while reaping HUGE HUGE personal rewards) has done a good job of handing them. If China and Russia were to fight each other, it would be like watching midget wrestling. Hell India gives China all they want in their border clashes recently.

Plus, I'd take the Brits over the Russians in a war ANY day. I know that AT somehow thinks they are great, and we should probably surrender to them now, but look at THEIR invasion of Afhganistan back in the 80s... They lost over 15K troops and never controlled the whole country in the 10 years they were there (AND they shared a border with them). We projected force from almost 9000 miles away and ran the Taliban and Al Queda into Pacistan in months. In the nearly 20 years we've been there, we've lost < 3000 troops.

Russia has never been a friend but was a damn good ally in WWII. Roosevelt and Churchill didn't trust Stalin as far as they could throw him, but they needed Russia to win. There is a difference between friend and ally. We would never have beaten Germany without them. We let Germany get too strong before getting involved (there's a lesson there).

As far as Afghanistan - the same could be said about the US in Vietnam. And don't forget we were helping the Afghans (you can't make a Stinger missile in a cave). I'm not saying that the Russians are better than the US militarily (they aren't and it's not very close, and they aren't as good now as they were even in the 80s) but they can be a useful ally.

Not to mention if we have to do something rather unsavory.

There is a concept that's called, "history". It is full of things that happened before the tv told you what to think last week. You should look into it sometime.

If you can manage to understand a little of it you might figure out why Poland would not consider Germany the most rock-solid of partners on which to hang their national sovereignty on, NATO treaty or not (which Germany and many other NATO countries aren't abiding by anyway, right?).

My comment was more directed at Poland desire to never again be occupied, by anyone. If you happen to go to Warsaw you would see the monolitic buildings built during the Soviet era that are too expensive to destroy. You would see the reconstruction of the old city and memorial to the Nazi atrocities during their occupation. You would see the Warsaw Citadel a reminder from he 19th century of Russian occupation. And if you went inside it you could visit the Katyn Museum. One of the most powerful museums that I have ever visited.
