Changing their logo again

Good grief.....
When do we bulldoze Charleston?

A school decides to change something on a logo that they are ashamed of. Want to get far away from it. I'm not sure why anyone would care. Unless they replace it with something hideous why the complaint? The actual idea of removing something that no longer represents who you are seems like a good idea

It was partly a joke man....

But in all seriousness it wouldn't shock me if my Charleston comment came true and they came after a bunch of the cities historical names. The very name Charleston is named after King Charles II of England. King Charles II was in control when the Royal African Company was created and he granted the charter for it which pillaged gold, silver, and traded slaves from Africa. His younger brother King James II was in charge of running it. The slaves arrived to the new world with RAC branded on their chests. RAC traded slaves for over 70 years.

Should we rename Charleston?
BTW... the answer to that question is NO we should not. Just pointing out that people could absolutely go after that as well. A large portion of the city's history and naming conventions could be attacked.

South Carolina is also named after Charles II (Carolus in Latin). Let’s change the state name!!!!

I'll be fighting alongside you when the nonsense comes.

It just struck me that way because schools change logos just to look cooler. Some idiots may come for the name Charleston or even Clemson. I just wouldn't miss then up with the same people that came for Tillman or Calhoun. Plenty of people that came for Tillman or Calhoun won't be coming for Clemson. Not everyone is stupid. Don't let the people that are stupid turn you off.

Why not flatten the grip of the sword and move on for simplicity's sake?

I loved the crossed sabers and "V"

The new logo looks a wannabe minor league from a crappy city.

^^^ I stopped reading; the silly logo is secondary and are keeping the "straight" grip handle.

Actually it was King Charles I but point made.
North Carolina and South Carolina were named after him. The name Carolus which stemmed "Carolina" as we know today is latin for Charles. In 1632 he granted a licence to a syndicate of traders that gave them royal approval to transport enslaved Africans from Guinea.

Look up the naming of New York. Dude made his money from slave trade.

Carolina (North and South) was named after King Charles I, father of King Charles II. Carolina comes from 'Carolus', Latin for Charles. Carolina Colony was founded in 1629, so that name may be in jeopardy as well. So, because of the 'politically correct', future Clemson and South Carolina fans may be pulling for teams with 'politically correct' names, in a state whose name is God knows what (maybe named Clyburn after Jim Clyburn), with it's founding city (Charleston) being called whatever, and since John Lewis Gervais, who named Columbia, had slaves, we could have a capital with a different name as well.

Just curious on your opinion as to what the differences are between Calhoun Honors College and Clemson? There wouldn't be a hue and cry about Clemson because he was less of a racist than John C Calhoun? Or is it because there's so much good water under the bridge with the name Clemson it overrides his racist slave-owning past? Not trying to Flame just honestly curious what you think

I just don't think slave ownership is enough.

Solid advice here...just like how not all cops are bad, or all white people are racist. Don't let the few that are turn you into a criminal.

Trust me. Because (insert any stat that explains how black people commit all the crimes) I have to live my life treated like less than a man. I don't hate all cops or all white people or I don't treat them all like the people who belittle me or look down on me daily because of random stats about black people committing crimes.

Some people are out here trying to hijack the positives of these conversations. I'm saying when people say unreasonable stuff we should be smart enough to ignore them and just listen to the stuff we agree with. Weak minded people or ones that never really agreed will say since they are looting I'm no longer on board with any of this. They were already looking for reasons to exit. There are people and organized efforts out here to turn people off from supporting any change. I just don't want people to get distracted by those bad people. If someone says all white people are bad or all cops are bad they are not the movement.... ignore them. Don't ignore the movement.

When does JFK become a target since he deemed John C. Calhoun one of the greatest Congressman to Live?

No disrespect to you because you might just be joking but people are seriously asking dumb ass questions like this. Well what about so and so he once went to dinner with Ben Tillman and called him a nice guy. Should we cancel him too. People like that are not looking for solutions or compromise.

In your opinion is some of this canceling going way over the top or is it about in line with the way it should be?

I've heard over the top suggestions like changing the name of the university or the name of the state.

Agreed if they changed the name Clemson it would have a massive Financial impact on the University. That's a consideration

Very level headed. Thomas Green Clemson was a very well educated, well travel man that left quiet an impressive legacy. Doing just a small amount of research, I don't come away thinking "slave owner" as a description of him.

Below is a bio from Clemson's website. Very long but very interesting. A name that jumped out at me was Bill Greenlee. Turns out he is a legendary figure around Clemson as well. I'm guessing there's a relation to DJ. If so, DJ is the ultimate legacy offer and Thomas Clemson would have probably given him a scholarship to.

I don't know about the financial impact. They could turn it into an economic gain with the rebranding. I just think it's the stupidest possible idea I've heard

Absolutely. He was a friend to black folks. That's just a fact. I'll defend him against any nonsense.

Strong statement. That was the impression i got. I'm guessing all the Nuke and all the Daniel kids are well aware of the history as well.

Said to say, I did not know his history before today. Even more proud to have the name Clemson on my degree.

Because it’s absurd! Where will it end. It’s funny, because every single time I’ve seen that uva logo, I’ve thought of slavery. Smdh. It’s giving in to something that isn’t hurting anyone, so these ridiculous requests will continue. It’s wasteful as well. Liberal BS is all it is.

You sound upset tho that they are changing a logo when logos literally have changed simply because they think it will be cooler with kids. This is not example of things going too far. We should walk right by this one. We've surpassed this. This shouldn't even be mentioned as a concern. We're literally removing statues and names from buildings. Things that never happen. That's a conversation. People can miss me if they are actually serious about a logo that is literally meaningless enough that they can change it every few years and no one would care. C'mon.
