I was stunned when the name Clemson was debated and was the class voted 55% to keep the name of the University as is. This decade I can see the school named after Thomas Green Clemson name being changed before the decade is done. If it passes what name do you think they could rename it. Don’t give me your emotional posts this is a future situation we will most likely experience sooner than later. What could they change it too?????

What does history tell you? The answer is, in the past, they could not. Why? Because their elementary and high schools are inferior across the nation. They don’t have the same available funds generally as schools where white people attend. Why does President Clemens have it as a goal to increase minority enrollment at Clemson? Because it has been unfairly low in the past.

I would suggest that even Donald Trump acknowledges the shortcomings because the administration significantly increased funding for HBCUs.

Until WE ALL realize that racism cuts across every walk of life - education, housing, employment, religion - we will all be part of the problem, not a solution. It isn’t enough for any of us to say, “I am not a racist.” We have to work - and work hard - and reaching out and listening, understanding the lives of people different than ourselves and aim to make life better. I'm not positive he was a slaveowner. His wife didn't inherit the Calhoun estate until after the civil war, and he didn't move to Fort Hill until 1872. Not seeing any info on his holdings prior to that.

Best I can tell, this is correct. Also, his will did not forbid the admission of POC and women as other’s did (Vanderbilt, Rice, etc.)
