When I knew we were in trouble.
It was 1999 and Im the young 25-year-old go getter working for a major software company calling on Duke energy in Charlotte. The customer requirement was software that could pull data off the switches and monitoring devices strung along the Pan Energy pipeline. But the goal of the project or at least not the primary purpose was not for what you thought. Your initial thought would be monitoring all of the critical elements related to the distribution of the payload In the pipe. You’d be wrong and so was I.
What they primarily wanted it for was for anyone in the oil and gas distribution trading to make snap judgments, save a few pennies here or there to make or lose millions. Traders or anyone that wanted could “subscribe” to this “real time” data.
Aside from the business benefits which alone are obvious and risky, I pondered this notion of anyone subscribing to any information and delivered in the internet pipe to you. How awesome......... and how dangerous this is at the same time. Valuable information from anyone or anything but also sounds extremely isolating and that anyone or anything could be creating this content.
We didn’t win the deal due a key technical element. Tried to get my company to build the necessary add on. We didn’t.
Anyway, I was too scared to venture on my own to build something. Too young.
Yahoo! came out with customized news and dashboard feeds among other offerings in the industry and then the Twitter ultimately came about.

Take immigration reform. Conservatives assume that Obama had an open border policy when he increased deportations and decreased spending on immigration control. This means he was more efficient than Trumps policy. Something conservatives should want. They think there was a horrible immigration issue and now are happy that’s Trump has increased expenses for ICE and the cost per deportation increased.

Both parties want to regulate what they don’t like. Conservatives don’t like gays, shouldn’t get the same rights as non gays. Liberals don’t like guns, people shouldn’t own them. Conservatives don’t like black people kneeling for the anthem, numerous gop politicians mentioned how it should be illegal to knell for the anthem. Liberal don’t like people drinking 100+ ounces of soda, believe it should be illegal.
