This is about to get interesting. 14 states have moved to have those drinks removed from eligible purchases. Coke and Pepsi are now actively paying people to promote their products being eligible on SNAP.

Sides:
**** this blackpill nonsense. The country is bankrupt; why the **** should we pay people to but coca-a-cola classic so they can get diabetes in their 20s???

This is the number one product sold on SNAP. Fact. If people want to buy Coke get a ****ing job and get your ass of food stamps.

Or:

Perhaps I was wrong about BIG SODA. Barring sodas from being bought using SNAP is un-American. President Trump literally has a Diet Coke button on his desk.

Not great for KO.

As a shareholder it makes me nervous. However, KO is really a distribution network as opposed to a Soda company.

They sell water, juices and healthier drinks and distribute them throughout the world.

I think they will be just fine, although they may have to alter their offerings.

SNAP - stands for supplemental nutrition, and I don’t think sugary drinks fall into that category. Other offerings should be made available.

Put me in the camp that thinks SNAP benefits should be limited to healthy foods and drinks. No soda, no candy, etc.
And should be limited period. How many people have been on SNAP for more than 6 months? That was designed as a temporary solution while you found a job, a large number of people look at that as their income.

Yes. There should obviously be a work requirement that should also include job training with a path to get the person off of government assistance.

A lot of SNAP is single moms and kids though. The fathers should be identified and their wages garnished to offset the cost.

We apparently need more reeducation on how you end up a single mom too. A lot of these problems are caused by lack of personal responsibility. I know people that had a child out of wedlock, raised that child and took care of the mother. We need to stop with constantly giving excuses and start demanding accountability - especially from those that want to be subsidized by tax payer money.

Orange juice has the same amount of sugar in most cases.

It’s not just the sugar that’s bad for you. There’s a bunch of bad stuff in many sodas. And for diet, aspartame is horrible for you. And at least OJ has some nutritional value.

But yea, my family doesn’t really drink that either. Adults are water, coffee, alcohol. Kids are water or water with some instant hydration powder for flavor. Keep milk for cereal (Magic Spoon, not sugary) and almond milk for shakes.

TL;DR, zero reason taxpayers should fund soda purchases.

Going to be interesting to see the conservative true believers that want to limit any and all benefits vs the Republican corporate boot lickers that will bend over backwards to defend mega corporations that donate to them.

You also have a huge swath of the population that is nutritionally ignorant and won’t understand or support this.

I don’t think anyone wants to limit any or all, not anyone serious. I’m more talking about people taking advantage of the benefits. I have zero problem with helping people, I’ve made that clear, my issue is with rampant abuse seemingly by people gaming the system. I don’t even have a problem with my tax dollars going to SNAP or any other program, but I expect it be accounted for and the folks responsible for dispersing it are doing the right things. That failure, and lack of trust, and absence of accountability ruins it for everyone. I understand that’s probably a pipe dream at this point but that’s my opinion.
