I work at his alma mater, the University of Nevada, Reno. People here worship him, so I have to be careful and guarded about my dislike for him.

That being said, I can't imagine many people here will support these type of actions. I understand using your platform to address societal issue, and I don't have an issue with that. But this crosses the line for me. Again, it is because of that flag and country you refuse to support that you have a platform in the first place, however undeserved that platform is.

We have our issues as a country, but these actions are doing little to nothing except drive the divide even deeper. Makes me hurt.

Wasn't he adopted by White people?

Anyone see this? He sat down during the National Anthem last Friday against the Packers saying "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color."
What a joke. Guess he forgot this country gave him over 100 million for shity QB play
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ck-explains-why-he-sat-during-national-anthem

And he did it because of his shitty QB play. He needs his name to be in the headlines to stay relevant.

This. The more I see athletes say and do things like this the more I respect Carmelo Anthony's interview after his last game for team USA. There's no denying that we have our issues here but there's also no denying that this is the greatest country in the world. To say otherwise is just silly.

This country may not be perfect, but it is still, by far, the greatest nation on the face of this earth and the greatest nation in the history of the world. When you stand up for the national anthem and put your hand over your heart, you aren't showing support for every political candidate, or every political issue, you are showing repect for every American soldier, leader and citizen who made sacrifices for you and this nation. Sacrifices to make this nation safe and sacrifices to make this nation better.

If he can't show his respect for those that came before him, and those who are busting their ass for him as I type this, and if he doesn't think this is the greatest country in the world, then why is he living and working here? Unlike many, if not most nations, he has the freedom to leave and go wherever he wants. That's just one of the many rights that the greatest nation on earth grants him. Sounds to me that he thinks he can do better than the USA and needs to pack his $##t, excercise that right, and get to stepping to wherever it is that is so much better.

Yeah, I feel sorry for him and all those people of color he hangs around with. Just wait until their plantation owners find out they are not out plowing the field - they really gonna get a good whppin.

Colin Kaepernick is a special kind of doofus. He needs to be entered into the NFL's head trauma regimen immediately. I didn't want to post anything until I heard his side of the story but after reading it, the guy is just clueless. Aside from the obvious fact that he is a young man who is making millions of dollars playing a game, he's just not even considering a lot of very important facts related to this situation.

I know this country isn't perfect. I know we have problems. Racism, classism, discrimination, etc. have existed as long as humans have been roaming the Earth. It's a sad and sorry part of the human condition. It's something we've made a great deal of progress with. Are we there yet? No, we're not. But we are (correct me if I am wrong) the first Western European founded nation to ever have a leader who is not white.

What Kaepernick is forgetting is that while he may hate what he views as oppression (which is unfounded) that flag is the symbol of the Union which sacrificed hundreds of thousands of lives to stop the horrific enslavement of his people. That flag is the same flag under which America sent an entire generation of its young men to die in Africa, Asia and Europe to free people from tyranny.

Again, there's a lot that's been done in this nation that wasn't right. Is any of us without moments we regret and times when we did things we know are wrong? The same is the case with our nation. We have our scars and our wrongful moments. But as the great as Harvard sociologist Orlando Patterson said, America, “is now the least racist white majority society in the world; has a better record of legal protections of minorities than any other society, white or black; offers more opportunities to a greater number of black persons than any other society, including all of those of Africa."

I hope he takes some time to learn about history a little bit and gain a little wisdom and perspective. I'm not especially proud of our nation right now either but I damn sure am going to honor the noble sacrifices of those that came before me. I have offered next to nothing to the altar of freedom and I will never disgrace those who have.

Fortunately we live in a country where you can express yourself any way you like. I do not like what he did at all! As an old white guy, if I did that, I would be called racist. For people that accept what he did FU!!!

Didn't even know Kaepaernick was black at all. Thought he was middle-eastern or something. Both parents who adopted him are white, from what I remember. Either way, he should be thankful that he gets handsomely to play football for a living and suck at it.

Love this country because it gives him the right to do what he did. However, it is absolutely okay to call him out him out for being a total choad. By the way, 0% chance he would do this if he was the starter and playing at the same level he was two years ago.

Some people on this board get it. I disagree with him totally. He's a selfish dude that doesn't give a damn about people of color. If he did he would've come up with a productive way to present his issue.

He's ignorant as all hell but so are some of you. He should leave? Plenty of good ole American Dems were pissed while Bush was in office. Plenty of good ole Reps were pissed the last 8 yrs. The argument and solution is always based in ideology, methodology, etc. Whenever it's based in race it's always about leaving the country. GTFO if you're not happy. When Roe vs Wade happened or when the current administration passed the Healthcare crap and people weren't happy how many white folks told the other angry white folks that if they're not happy just GTFO? Honestly, why are black folks that are unhappy, whether they're right or wrong, always told to leave the country? Born and raised for generations here but unhappy about a policy or the way we conduct ourselves as a nation. But they should leave if they're unhappy. Folks said some pretty bad stuff about this country behind the healthcare and things like abortion, very strong emotions, but never asked to go somewhere else. Republicans have been pissed behind what president Obama has done. I never suggested that if you ain't happy just leave.

I completely disagree with Kap but those veterans you all keep bringing up and throwing up in people's faces like you give a damn, died so Kap can be a dick not so he can leave when he's angry. They fought and died in wars against countries that at the very minimum asked their citizens to just leave if they're not happy. In this country we encourage people to do what he did, we address it and move on one way or the other. America ladies and gentleman. Most of you responding don't deserve to mention those veterans. This is why they made the ultimate sacrifice. Don't be a dick like Kap. Or if you aint happy that Kap didn't stand, move your sorry a$$ to a country that would kick him out or execute him so you can be happy. He'd get what he deserved if you both live in Iran. He'd be dead and you'd be happy you lived in a nation that treated unappreciative citizens that way.

Would you also agree that it is within the 49ers right to cut him over this if they had the balls to do it. They could say that it was detrimental to the team because they feared protests and boycotts that would hurt attendance. Quite a few people have lost jobs and a lot of money for saying things people dont like these past few years, why should this be any different?.Those people had the right to say these things but i didnt see people lining up to defend their right to say it.

It should somehow be physically painful for Kap to be that stupid.

It's the only way it would be fair to the rest of us.

Many of the freedoms we have in this country were granted in a time when people had manners, common sense, common decency, accountability, etc, etc, and the freedom of speech is one of them. We, as a nation, need to seriously revisit these freedoms and consider if people today are capable of handling the responsibility that comes along with the freedoms.

Not to be a stickler but freedoms weren't granted by our Constitution. People are born with those freedoms but man tries to take them away. Our Constitution, for a time at least, protected those freedoms. I'm not sure what to say about your post though... you're suggesting we should restrain the freedoms of people because you think they aren't responsible enough? Who decides this? Who is the ultimate judge? What happens when someone doesn't like you and they decide to have you labeled incapable of being free? It all seems very dangerous to me!

No, people are not born with freedoms, but I do agree that the Constitution doesn't grant any freedom, but I never said it did, so?? A piece of paper can't give anybody anything. The truth is people are born with nothing, and everyday is a struggle to survive and be free. Freedoms are bought and paid for with the blood of those who fought and continue to fight to give us those freedoms.

Driver's licenses are a privilege, not a right. Just about all of our freedoms should be considered privileges, and not rights. Just like a driver's license, you must pass a minimum competency test in order to enjoy that privilege.

What's dangerous is when you have people who aren't qualified, able to get out there and cause harm to people.

I'll say whatever I please since I truly warned that right as a veteran. Kaepernick is a little bitch who has millions for being a horrible QB. I wonder what his white parents that adopted and raised him think of his asinine comments.

I hope his primadona, rich, selfish ass gets bitch slapped by anyone and everyone and is then released. His play alone should get him released but this should be the reason to give him a swift kick in the ass on the way out. Let the door hit you several times on the way out

What a POS. If people like him hate this country so much, why don't they just leave?

This is the way I see it. He sung about their 60 and 70's sisters. My god it's the greatest country on earth and you complain? Most shouldn't be here.

The irony is the freedom he has from this country gave him the right to sit down during the national anthem without any repercussions (oppression). Now we also have the freedom to call him a POS for doing it.

Bad thing is there was probably soldiers there that couldn't stand up because they lost that ability fighting for his right to stand or sit. I wish someone would have grabbed his tail and a chair and made him sit during the national anthem in front of those war heroes. He made more playing in that pre season game than those veterans make in a year fighting for his freedom.
