More are refusing to cover property in the state. The state run (hmmm... sounds like socialism) insurance company is the only org filling in the gaps. They are now forcing people to update 15 year old roofs, or their premiums will triple. Ian will likely force others to be insolvent, which will then flow to the taxpayers in the state.

There is a state law that allows Citizens to assess non-policy holders if it can't pay its claims. Residents will likely see a Hurricane Tax after this, and we already have the highest insurance costs in the country.
