I was never a "lose weight", "be happier", etc New Years resolution'er, so I didn't put much stock into them. But several years ago, I started setting myself some highly quantitative goals that transitioned into an annual exercise. My thought was if you put something to measure it by, it was much easier to track and by extension, succeed at. For example, "lose weight" turns into "lose 15 pounds" so you have an idea if you're on track at any given time of the year. It's easy to know if you're ahead or behind schedule.
My staples are usually a combination of reading (12 books per year, complete a series, etc), fitness (run an organized 5k per month, complete a Spartan Trifecta, etc), travel (hit 2 national parks I haven't been to, use 4 weeks of PTO, etc), and finance (make 4 additional car payments, increase savings by $X, etc) goals to diversify my focus a bit.
Any good ones you've set for next year or something you're overly proud of to accomplish this year?
