i’m thinking this year has to be one of the top 5 seasons the gamecocks have had all time, which should qualify them for another book at the very least.
From 2015 to last year the rivalry was kind of bland (which is how I like it), mainly because their fans became apathetic and women’s BB was outperforming.
They’ve experienced a resurgence of excitement lately though, and you have to forgive me if I’m reveling in the fact that the gamecocks are coming back to breathable air from what is really their stratosphere. This is the first year people have even used gamecocks and CFP in the same sentence at any point in time.
The loss to Illinois puts a little bit of a damper on your gamecock next door neighbor’s ability to brag about their program. They may still openly pontificate on why the CFP got it wrong leaving gamecocks out. But they won’t get much sympathy.
I usually sleep a bit better at night when the gamecocks have lost some games and when their fans are depressed. But even after this one, I’ve got to think those guys are stoked re: the team they have coming back for next year provided they don’t get any obscene levels of attrition from their star players.
I just don’t get the sense that they are going to be disappointed for long with solid prospects for next year on the horizon.
Their QB has a little bit of the Connor Shaw magician type of type of skill set that is going to be a bit of a handful for us the next three years if he stays at South Carolina.
Their was a well know TV/ Radio personality who once said the Clemson Tigers are absolutely terrified of Shane Beamer‘s progress. The Clemson Tiger cycling out and the Gamecocks are cycling in.”
