University of South Carolina women's basketball forward, Ashley Watkins, has been arrested and charged with assault and kidnapping. Watkins, a Columbia native who attended Cardinal Newman, is currently a junior at USC.
Campus police arrested Watkins Saturday after an incident that happened at an apartment complex located on campus.
An arrest warrant stated that Watkins assaulted the victim by "forcefully grabbing her face, pulling her by her arms, and pushing her." The warrant also said Watkins picked up the victim and carried her against her will, grabbing her head and forcing her to walk down the hall, and controlling her movement while preventing her from leaving."
Watkins was arrested around 3:00 p.m. Saturday, granted a $30,000 personal recognizance bond, and released. A court date is set for October 25.
A spokesperson for USC said, “We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather information."
