Saw someone in the other thread wonder what ETN would look like if he got the same number of carries as Mafah, so I decided to see how often ETN got 20+ carries in a game:
Syracuse (2018) - 27
South Carolina (2018) - 28
Boston College (2020) - 20
And now Mafah:
Notre Dame (2023) - 36
UNC (2023) - 23
FSU (2024) - 25
Louisville (2024) - 30
Virginia Tech (2024) - 26
ETN finished his sophomore and junior seasons with 204 and 207 carries respectively, and Mafah is at 161 with at least four games left to play. He also got 43 carries over the first four games, so 118 of his carries have come in five games almost tripling his workload. All other RBs currently on the roster have combined for 70 carries, so Mafah through nine games is sitting with 69.69% (very nice) of the team's carries. During ETN's junior season when he got 207 carries, all other RBs on the roster combined for 208 carries, leaving ETN with 49.87% of the team's carries.
So Mafah is getting more snaps, more often, in a much shorter time span, while his backups are getting fewer snaps when compared to ETN, all while presumably nursing an injury. Caveat would be ETN got fewer snaps because we were blowing people out more often and ETN averaged about double the number of receptions as Mafah.
