I think most of the lack of interest comes from those that aren’t able to compete in the new landscape. I agree with almost everyone that it’s a mess right now, and needs to be fixed. However, that has not impacted the entertainment value that it brings. More teams are competitive now and have a chance to play for a championship, much further into the season, than at anytime in the history of the game.
