Getting to the field from upper deck

I take my young family to 1-2 games/ year. We are going to the Citadel game and this is the first time my kids have mentioned going on the field after the game. We were given some upper deck tickets (North stands). I have gone on the field from the lower deck many times. Is there a protocol if you are coming from the upper deck? Are you able to enter the lower gates after a certain period of time? TIA
