at that next opportunity whether he thinks spring games are going to soon become a thing of the past.

This from Sean Callahan of the On3 Nebraska site:

We’ve seen teams like Nebraska and Central Florida jump out early and say they won’t hold a traditional spring game in 2025. Over the past few weeks, more programs have followed suit.

Ohio State and USC are joining the Big Red as two more major programs that don’t plan to hold a spring game. Texas and Florida are still deciding.

Meanwhile, Penn State head coach James Franklin came out this week and said they still plan to hold one. Many coaches probably agree with Matt Rhule on this, but the question is—do they have the power to pull the plug?

OSU led the nation in spring game attendance in 2024, pulling in 80,012 fans, while Nebraska was fourth with 60,452. Texas had the ninth-largest crowd at 40,000, and Penn State ranked third with 67,000.

This conversation could look completely different by 2026, but for now, some teams will hold spring games, and some won’t.
