If You Don’t Want College Football Played This Fall With Fans Why Are You On A CFB Fan Site?

Just curious if anybody has seen the photo of the GaT football game in 1918 during the Spanish Flu. All the fans are wearing masks. You can find it on dailysnark.com It doesn't appear that fans are social distancing.

It has been posted in at least 2 threads that I saw

At this point I don't think we know that people going to DV to see a football game will accelerate cases and deaths. That is just assumed because the doomsayers are predicting. As you say there are a lot of unknowns, and we can't quit living life because of it. By all means stay at home if you aren't comfortable going. I might decide to stay home too. There is a lot of time between now and Sept Lets wait and see what happens between now and then .
There will be ZERO studies done on whether letting 80,000 people into FedEx Stadium into a few weeks to sit together for four hours, scream at refs, cheer, eat, and yell accelerates cases and deaths. That is the most obvious thing in the world and not worth studying. Unless you can guarantee all 80,000 are free and clear and virus-free, it will obviously spread. How much and will anyone die? Those are two good questions - we could give a mathematical probability today on both of those - somehow I just think some of you won't believe it (until it happens to you personally, apparently). The better question is: how many cases and deaths are we okay with, as a society, for those 80000 to attend the sporting event?

It's kind of darkly humorous to me. If we'd posted a sign outside Death Valley last fall and said "Welcome to Death Valley! By entering today's game, you understand and agree that TWENTY of you over the age of 60 will die! Enjoy your game!" .... I wonder what the reaction would have been? Insert any non-zero number you like into that banner - the actual number doesn't matter.

I don’t know what’s more strange... The original post or the 18 people who liked it.

Please stay home for your safety.

We will welcome you back to Death Valley in 2021 or 2022 when you think it’s safe. This is not a hater thread.

I was just wondering why folks that think football can’t be played safely this fall are following the action?

If you can’t “like” that question because it promotes unsafe behavior then I truly want you to be safe. But don’t try and ruin it for the rest of us.

You’re trying too hard. It’s weird to me that adults can be so immature about a situation like this. People disagree on what should or shouldn’t happen this fall. So be it. But to go on a mini rant about how people that have a certain opinion shouldn’t be on a message board is silly.

Reading responses from the the “everyone stay at home until there’s a vaccine” crowd really makes me wonder why you would continue to spend time on a college football fan site? If you truly think it’s not safe for the players, coaches, referees, ticket takers to play this fall then why aren’t you on a virtual bridge club site or some kind of game dedicated to safe distancing?

Don’t get me wrong. It’s perfectly fine to say you’re not going to a game in person this year due to your age or pre-existing conditions you may have. I totally respect that choice. But if you’re insisting it’s not safe for players playing this fall and against even smaller crowds being there at games shouldn’t you be a “fan” of some other activity?

Why would you be here on this site if you’re anti football?
It’s very simple...I pay to be here and post my opinions just like you. That doesn’t make me anti football as you indicate. It makes me smart enough to realize that life is more important than a damn football game.

People need to start preparing themselves that we aren't going to have fans this fall, unless there is a HUGE increase in quick testing available. Just not going to happen (allowing fans) unless we have some major breakthroughs (and we might). Is that the correct decision? Don't know. But you can see the writing on the wall from the decision makers. It is coming.

Will be interesting to see what happens in MLB. And I have doubts they can address the Player's Union concerns enough to even try and begin the season in July. If MLB struggles to get their league going, with the budget they have for potential unlimited testing of players, then you can chalk up no fans for CFB (or NFL) and begin to seriously doubt we even have a Fall season.

This post has to be one of the dumbest ever written on TI. You're obviously rustled because enough people disagree with you on this issue but to pretend like we cant still be fans and think something isn't safe is asinine. Should I quit driving because I dont think Yugos are safe? Should I quit my profession because I dont think it would be safe to do the same job in South Africa?

But then you go on to say its okay if we dont wanna go because its not safe for us. Who died and made you judge of all things corona-sports related? I think football will be one of the worst things anyone could do in terms of trying to NOT spread this virus. To be quite honest, its idiotic to think otherwise when we're talking about guys sweating and snorting and rubbing all over each other every play. Football in 2020 will absolutely 100% increase the spread of this virus or any other for that matter.

Your comment "But if you’re insisting it’s not safe for players playing this fall and against even smaller crowds being there at games shouldn’t you be a “fan” of some other activity? " is, again, one of the most ignorant things we will read on here and thats saying something. Let me say it this way, I insist its not AS safe for players playing this fall and against even smaller crowds being there at games as it would if they werent or didnt. You cant really argue that with the nature of the sport and the general rules for not spreading germs, virus, whatever you wanna call it.

And BTW, I hope they play. But I am concerned what happens when Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne test positive and have to miss 2-3 games. I realize that us a worst case scenario but it very well could happen. Better yet, what happens when Clemson has 10-15 players test positive and the entire team has to quarantine and forfeit a couple of games. If you dont think thats a real possibility then you should become a self proclaimed expert on somethign else.

If you hope they play then this Post wasn’t addressed at you. This was for the everyone has to stay home crowd.

I’m concerned for everyone’s health but trust that based on the actual data that we will find a way for them to safely do that.

It’s the people that want no one playing and no fans in the stadium that I am questioning.

Glad you want them playing.

I dont read every post on the board, but do we really have posters that don’t want a football season?

Yes
