what are your thoughts on scholarship allocation in putting a roster together?
Particularly, most seem to agree that the position groups where projecting a prospect from HS to D1/FBS is an effective crapshoot are OL and specialists.
With that in mind, would you consider recruiting OL and specialists exclusively from the portal, i.e. allocating no scholarships directly to HS prospects at those positions?
I don't mean trying to snare everyone else's all-conference level performers (let's say in the hypothetical your school can't afford this) but rather that a player, preferably with multiple years of eligibility remaining, and with D1 level film to verify certain functional ability at this level would be your primary targets.
Put the word out publicly that you're always accepting tape of OL and specialists for review if a kid wants you to look at him.
With such a high bust rate on these players at literally every school in the country why not eliminate some of the guesswork?
