Hate seeing people lose their job. However, if you look at his articles and tweets from this past he was in concert with Dan Wolken and other sports writers literally trying to get college football shutdown due to Covid 19 risks.

Here we are nearing the end of the season and not a single football player or coach that has been hospitalized or become seriously ill from Covid 19.

But all of the protocols that CFB had to implement to save the season and loss of games, and loss of revenue have lead to his layoff.

Ultimately, fewer fans and viewers equals less revenue from advertisers and cable companies.

Self inflicted wound if you ask me...

Over the last several months there have been a TON of journalists who have focused on and peddled the absolute worst headlines, the worst-case scenarios with regard to the virus. The easiest thing in the world to do is to shut everything down and keep everything shut down until there is a vaccine. Problem is, the vast majority of folks peddling this scenario do not have a payroll to meet. You cannot bankrupt a country because of a war or a virus or whatever. People need to have a right and total leeway to provide for their families. There are risks, to be sure. Absolutely. But people have to eat, they have to be able to earn a living.

For the record, I have no idea why Maisel was laid off. I have had a few conversations with him in the past at bowl games and always enjoyed our conversations.

As for Wolken, he is nothing more than a woke, agenda-driven, race-baiting, statue-destroying advocate, cancel culture advocate, HIGH taxes, big-government, socialist, hack. Wolken ... Mr. Granola. If Wolken had it his way, we would be a socialist state and every one of us would be coughing up 70% of our earnings to the government. Also, Tigerillustrated.com would not exist because discretionary spending would be completely shut down due to almost no one having any disposable income.

I rather enjoy when Mr. Ard comes off the top rope.

Chris, your list of great posts is a mile long, but this is your best yet.

I consider his move dropping off to one side of the fence instead of keeping on the fence

Not that I am not understanding when someone needs to stay on the fence

we need to do what works best for us as individuals especially when picking a fight gives us no benefit

They tell him come back in 2 weeks?

Maisel was a great historian of college football. He was sort of like Tim Bourret in his knowledge of the sport and I enjoyed the series he did last year for the 150th anniversary of the sport.

Hmm I think both XT and certainly Justin Foster have been adversely affected by Covid combined with other underlying conditions. I imagine that there have been others throughout college football that were affected by Covid as well, but thank goodness no one has been hospitalized to my knowledge. I agree with most of your post however.

I can think of worse than Maisel without a doubt. For example I’d fire Mark Jones or Maria Taylor well before Maisel. I suspect he will land somewhere (The Athletic maybe).

Covid gets blamed for a lot of problems it didn’t cause in various aspects of society. It’s an easy excuse to use when convenient.

XT was overweight last year. He was in the doghouse well before Covid. His problems have been attitude and/or mental were going on well before the pandemic hit.

Dabo has been more than fair in his assessment and treatment of XT in the press to protect XT.

Lastly, XT got Covid at home and not from playing football. He would’ve been safer at Clemson.

I don’t have first hand info on Justin Foster other than he was never sick enough to be hospitalized.

I know this lacks compassion and decency but I could not care less what happens to the people at ESPN. They have done so much damage to sports they can just rot in hell for all I care. You reap what you sow and they can reap it in droves as far as I'm concerned.

I would say Maria Taylor would be less likely to go.
