We have talked about how America’s capitalist system, fear of failure and general mentality create an economic system with far more upside. They temper that with a more traditional European beliefs of a stronger safety net, which is now engrained in them.

They readily acknowledge that their system creates an environment where failure doesn’t hurt as much, so there is less incentive to ensure you don’t fail. They also acknowledge that their system results in generations being “stuck” in the same or similar level as their parents, whereas significant generational leaps in success are much more common in the US.

In talking with them - aside from the engrained belief in a strong safety net - it would seem most agree conservative economic principles result in greater opportunity for success. I suppose that’s why they choose to operate the majority of their business in the US, while complaining about the lack of innovation and constant problems with various national health systems in Europe.
