I talked to several oil distributors today, and it's bad news all the way around... this market is now being hit with another supply shortage, causing shops like mine to shut down on days when I run out of inventory. Which means no source of revenue to cover business and personal expenses that do not simply stop just because I have to close.

Not only that, the price for refined motor oil is about to spike 20-25% per gallon in the coming weeks. For reference, an average price increase of 1-2% annually has been standard since I've been in this industry (2003). In January 2021, around a week after the presidential inauguration, we had an immediate 70% per gallon price increase ... far more than the previous 18 years COMBINED! Now, we're about to be hit with an additional 20-25% per gallon price increase.

On top of the supply shortage.

I was told by one distributor that they've had multiple clients tell them that they will be forced to shut down their businesses as they can't weather the supply shortage or the outrageous price increases.

A few years ago, I decided that I'd had enough of politics, news media, pointless debate, ignorant people, and just stupidity in general. So, at that point, I chose to simply focus on my bubble of reality - what closely affected me and what I could control in my day-to-day life. I scrolled past polarizing topics and articles on social media, held back from posting my opinions and arguments on sensitive issues, and would not engage in any conversations about such things when solicited. I completely turned off the television, aside from a few series that I still follow, and stopped reading newspapers. All was right in my world. It was glorious.

As long as the nonsense going on outside of my bubble STAYED outside of my bubble, then I really couldn't care less. I've gotta tell ya, I've never felt better in my entire life than I have the last few years. Whereas, before I was easily agitated and ready to tell someone just exactly how stupid that they were, now I sleep easy, not even knowing nor caring that these people exist. Getting rid of all the negativity was a game-changer.

Well, now we've got a problem... all of the imbeciles out in the world are beginning to shit on my bubble. I don't know why my security and way of life are being threatened, nor do I care to debate the origins of the problem. The only thing that matters to me is getting this shit straightened out with the quickness, or else I'm gonna have to come out of my bubble full-on swingin to get things back on track - something that I really don't want to have to do. Write, call, email politicians, bitch on social media loudly and long enough that the ship gets righted, protest, boycott, whatever. I don't care what it takes, just get it done so that I can go back to enjoying my little world without having to deal with the pointless aspects of the rat race that most everyone obsesses over.

Thanks in advance.

no offense, but bitching after political issues impact your “bubble” is too little too late. Elections have consequences and choosing to abstain to protect your “bubble” also has consequences. You can’t bitch when you haven’t participated.

He absolutely can bitch all he fvcking wants. If he’s been running his business, paying his taxes, following laws, and causing harm to no one…he’s participated.

OP you are exactly the type of guy the Founders intended to serve in public office. An entrepreneur with real life experience. I’m sorry about your business, this is what they wanted though.
Yep. It's funny hearing all these people calling Democrats stupid. They're not stupid. They are a hell of alot smarter and more savvy than their Republican colleagues. What you are seeing is their well oiled machine producing the outcomes they wanted all along.

The sad part of what you said above is that if an election was held today the morons in America would still vote for the mess we got

Stupidity is blind and zombie like

I personally ask myself every day how can people be so dumb and not think for themself

Exactly..People say it should be easy to vote..Bullshit..It should be harder to vote..There's way to many people in this country who contribute absolutely nothing to the society having way to much of a say that effects the people who do contribute and run this mfer..

Federal Voter ID and an updated voter roll requirement is the answer. Best we can do. Republicans could have made this happen 2017/2018, but were as usual, asleep at the wheel. Had we done that, we wouldn't even be talking about this right now.

Its maddening how we do politics in this country...Look at the politicians all across this country who haven't ever had a real job, don't have kids etc etc that we allow to pass law that governs peoples lives..Democrats and Republicans..99% of them are absolutely worthless..I understand why they wanna erase our forefathers and talk about them now the way they do..The cold hard truth is George Washington would go to Capitol Hill if he was alive today and would literally execute the vast majority of them for what they've done to this country..That's a fact

Where did I infer that I didn't vote?

You serious, Clark? My handle is my name... it's stupid people like you that I try to ignore
Lol that's not what I meant. I'm saying who are you in the world that is going to effect change the way you are describing? I'm in the same boat. I'm not insulting you or at least not trying to. And yes I'm stupid. I've said that over and over.

Not increasing prices on your customers is going to put you under. Better to slowly raise them.

I see... back before I said to hell with everybody outside of my immediate bubble, I was very vocal about many polarizing political and societal issues, to the point that I built up a small following and made some connections that have proven to be useful over the years. Knowing who to bitch to generally yields more results when they personally know who is bitching to them. I'm not saying I'm some big time mover and shaker, not even close. But what I am very good at is getting shit done.

as you raise prices the customer base erodes based on their disposable income available to buy Doug’s services

raising prices or cutting costs and doing more unit services by becoming more efficient or cutting services for the same price might work

over the next year I am expecting 50 per cent of restaurants to close and a serious number of small businesses to close

more people will move to working with big box stores

That's definitely something that kept me up all last night trying to map out. The biggest hurdle is that I just had to increase prices by $4 across the board a few months after that 70% price jump. $4 doesn't seem like much but it's enough to deter about 20% off my customers from getting their oil changed.

There's a delicate balance between price increases and loss of business that is frustrating as hell to get correct.

That's cool. I will admit that my attempts at getting shit done politically have soured my attitude. If you can change things, more power to you.

i am working both privately and in the government to try to help with the insanity

problem is most people want insanity as it rewards people who feel entitled and looking for government largesse

I am trying to get as much of the government pork as possible because if you don’t other people will

it’s about surviving the absolute insanity and hate that is gripping America now driven by people who lust for power and control

And you know who that is

Is that when you look in the mirror?

Short answer is you can thank the Green New deal folks....they want to increase the price of oil to the point that people will buy electric cars. That is their goal despite Biden`s and Psaki's daily lies that it's the fault of the oil companies that won't drill, and now the excuse is it's all Putin's fault. Problem is, most average Joe's in this country can't afford an electric car.

That's just BS. More complicated than that. But in simplest terms, the price increases are due to market uncertainty and a POTENTIAL supply and demand scenario, especially in Europe. It's what happens when two of the top three oil producers are at odds.

@nytigerfan

Please continue explaining how this is all Trump’s fault, and how you couldn’t care less about fuel/oil prices.

Your vote was for a complete failure.

I won't apologize for being more successful than you. This is America.

And I never said that this "was all Trump's fault". But yes, Trump does deserve some blame for the current issues that we are facing as a nation. I could explain it again (again citing data and articles from conservative media outlets that prove my points).

But explaining it again to you would be a waste of time. You and the other Trump cult members are so busy sucking on Trump's niblets that you refuse to admit that he could possibly have done anything but make American great.

I feel sorry for you.

Never feel sorry for a man in a position such as mine.

Your hate for all things Trump is such entertainment. It’s as if your so salty he’s a more successful version of what you strive to be.

You try so hard to mimic him.

Biden’s administration since he took over has done nothing to incentivize investors investing in fossil fuels in this country. That is the problem! Heck, Biden said on the campaign trail that he promised he would get rid of fossil fuel production in this country. What more do you need to hear? They have came in and regulated them more, etc etc etc. The other problem is when the entire worlds’ economy shut down due to Covid a lot of them stopped pumping the oil, because the demand wasn’t there. Then Biden wins the election and there’s no incentive for these companies to turn the switch back on. The nuts are running the asylum in Washington now (and they will remain there, but that’s another topic altogether) , and if you had millions you wouldn’t invest in fossil fuels right now either, because this government wants to move to wind and solar and ultimately electric cars.

The shift to now blaming Putin for all our oil price problems and inflation problems is just ‘never letting a good crisis go to waste’. Because this ball was already rolling full steam before Putin invaded Ukraine. Although yes, our not importing Russian oil anymore is not going to help the situation at all.

Nah bro, if my daddy had given me $200MM back in the seventies, I would be worth a heck of a lot more money than your man crush, Mr. Front Butt.

Pointing out that Trump is fallible does not equate to "hate for all things Trump". The fact that you think he is infallible equates to you being a brainwashed cult member. Sad!

And it is hard not to feel sorry for you when you are constantly complaining about how much it costs to fill up your car.

Dude @nytigerfan has nothing more to say...has nothing to stand on but left wing excuses and to spew, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP! We aren't talking about Trump, we are talking about you're president, Uncle Joe.

"I won't apologize for being more successful than you" What the Hell does that even have to do with anything?

Plus I would imagine he's not quite as wealthy as he thinks.

He makes me laugh. This place wouldn’t be the same without ‘Ol Sweathog.

He knows what he voted for. That’s why he’s so salty.

Trump was president one year ago. He spent the entirety of his four years as President blaming everything bad on Obama. Remember when he blamed Obama for a shortage of COVID tests (despite the fact that COVID did not exist when Obama was president)? And you were onboard with that bullshit, but now we are not allowed to talk about the previous president?

Your fantasies regarding my wealth, or lack thereof, are of no import.

Yes he did mention the former administration from time to time. I don't particularly like it, but sometimes it is warranted. Comparing that to what the left does in repeatedly talking about Trump day after day, after day is comical and undeniable!

What he said, was that the Obama administration had at one time looked how a large scale testing procedure would be handled by the CDC and found that their procedures were slow and antiquated, but did nothing about it. They also found that the CDC was using their own test instead of test that originated by the WHO. The CDC tests were slow and not fully effective and again the Obama admin did nothing to improve it and just hoped they would not ever be needed.

You're the one that brought up your so called successfulness, not me!

That is not at all accurate. That's not what Trump tried to blame on Obama, and it does not even make sense. The thing that Trump tried to blame on Obama never existed.

It’s not clear what regulation Trump and Redfield have in mind, and neither the White House, FDA, nor the CDC responded to requests for more information. But experts told us that no such “rule” was implemented under Obama.

“It’s not true,” said Rachel Sachs, a Washington University in St. Louis law professor, of Trump’s claim in a phone interview. The Obama administration did attempt to impose a risk-based system of regulation on laboratory developed tests, or LDTs, and introduced draft guidance in 2014. But that guidance was never finalized, and was withdrawn after Trump won the election in 2016. “It never went into effect,” she said, “so it’s not an issue to walk back.”
