Imagine that, rifle used. Not a car, not a knife, not a pencil.

22 more casualties to protect the 2nd amendment!

And you're in one of them so we'll be knocking on your door next...
I realize your post has to be total sarcasm but dude, you're not knocking on anyone's door.......please just stop.

What happened in Israel will put more weapons in American homes, certainly not less. My own home included. Despite 9 + years in combat orientated roles, we've never had a gun in our house. 3 kids under 13 so my wife wasn't interested.....she basically filled the forms out herself after watching innocent people get slaughtered in their homes.

Perhaps the FBI should be more focused on the "red flag" people rather than searching for J6'er's that didn't enter the Capitol or surveiling parents that are outspoken at school board meetings? Seems like they might have the wrong set of priorities and perhaps you lefties should start asking your elected leadership for a shift in focus?

Obviously need to wait until we have more concrete info but initial suspect was committed to a mental institution for 2 weeks in 2023, yet still a licensed weapons instructor.........if that's not a red flag, then you may as well kill the entire program and just arm everyone.

From my research this is accurate. Had made threats that voices were telling him to commit such a shooting. Multiple domestic violence arrests. Occurred in gun-free zones.

Anyone claiming gun control as a solution, I would like to know how any existing or proposed laws could have prevented this.

The bulletin also states that CARD recently reported mental health issues, including "hearing voices and threats to shoot up the National Guard Base in Saco, ME."

According to the document, Card was committed to a mental health facility for two weeks over the summer before he was released.

The problem is crazy people owning guns. Not guns in general. We should really improve the mental health screening for firearms. Red flag laws, whatever. And I’m cool with a much more stringent process to obtain an AR type weapon. Make it like getting a silencer. It’s a lot harder.

Red flag laws sound fine on paper but one can envision a world where they are abused. Too subjective.

How do you define an AR type weapon per your suggestion?

Also, I definitely don't agree with making a fairly standard semi-automatic rifle an NFA item like a suppressor...(a suppresor shouldn't be so hard to get...people watch too many movies)

A person dies ever 39 minutes due to DUI yet we still allow alcohol.

Well, I get what you are saying for sure. But show me the last time someone walked into a building and killed 22 other people with a bottle of liquor. I get dead is dead, but on a normal day, a drunk with a vehicle simply can't kill as many folks as a person with a rifle.

Slowly but surely the DUI thing is getting worse and worse for Drunks. Not fast enough, but it's happening. Folks are doing real time for DUI deaths not, not just the relative slap on the wrist they used to get (ESPECIALLY if they were wealthy and had a good lawyer). One of these days a habitual drunk is going to stagger out of a bar and kill someone driving home and they are going to get charged with murder 2 or even 1. The reason being they went to the bar with the intent to drive home drunk.

Agree. Nothing wrong with making the process more stringent.

YOU CRAZY BASTARD!! Here you are talking facts and being all reasonable. I'm not a fan of gun control myself, but I consider myself reasonable on the subject. I can say that I have NO PROBLEM with dictating that crazy people shouldn't be allowed to own or handle firearms. But the NRA would disagree with that and fight tooth and nail to stop any sort of work done in that direction.

I personally know a female that was driving drunk with a 22 year old . She wreaked flipped killing the 22 year old. She was release after about 6 months . Slap on the wrist .

I'm not an expert by any means. I'll leave it up to people with more time and expertise to determine how to implement improved mental health screening measures.

Same on the threshold on firearms. Not an expert there and haven't spent a great deal of time thinking about it.

I own hunting rifles and shotguns and none carry more than 5 rounds. I also own an AR with 30 and even 40 round magazines. Why? Well first it was zombie apocalypse, then BLM riots and now islamic jihad I guess.

But is it really necessary for a random dude like me to have a gun and mags that would allow me to shoot over 100 rounds in 30 seconds? Zombie apocalypse, maybe. Islamic jihad, I don't think that volume will make it all the way to my door.

I think suppressors should be easier to get for sure. I want one for my deer rifle for when my young boys are in the stand with me. Also want one on a .22 to shoot the raccoons terrorizing my pool and dock.

For the sensitive people, I'm kidding about my reasons for owning an AR. Mostly at least.

There is hope yet!

The main issue with "banning ARs" or making them harder to get is that no one can define them in any way that makes sense. Illinois has tried (if you actually read what is banned, it is bizzare, and it was used to heavily infringe the second amendment) and Cali has tried. You can say ban AR style weapons and then I'll go out and get a Ruger Mini-14 that shoots the same 5.56 caliber and can accept AR mags, but its made of wood so it doesn't look like the scary AR, but functions mostly the same.

Another note is that rifles are dwarfed by pistols in the number of gun related crimes and homicides.

I like this. Personally, I don't care much about the size of your magazine (wink, wink, nod, nod) or that you have an AR. That's fine and from this post, I doubt that you are ever going to get to a spot where you think walking into a building or school and shooting as many people as you can is a good idea.

I think most people agree with me in that I'm not a bit interested in "controlling" law abiding citizen's guns. I'm really interested in stopping these mass shootings. So yeah, keeping the crazies away from guns is a good idea. I'd also think that most folks think that having a gun is a responsibility as well as a right. If you have a swimming pool in your neighborhood, you have to have a fence around it... It's a safety issue that most people have no problem with. If you have a gun, the same sort of thing applies... some basic precautions are required. Keep it locked up when you aren't around.

No one willing to address the question, how do you classify an AR type rifle? What exactly are you saying the process is more stringent for?

I get the sense a lot of people are advocating for laws on things they truly don't understand.
I own an arsenal, ARs included.

I bought them all within a few hours and took them home. Make the process longer, more background research, personal history, mandatory waiting period, etc.

What’s there not to understand?

Are you talking about the process for any firearm or just “AR type”

If it’s the latter, I’m asking you or anyone to define what that means. What is an “AR type”. Is it just any semi automatic magazine fed rifle??

Regarding waiting periods: https://fox17.com/amp/news/local/woman-killed-while-waiting-for-gun-permit-for-protection

Absolutely not on red flag laws. No way.

When will our government step up close the border and at try to stop the fentanyl flow coming across the Southern border.
Our government needs to grow a pair and tell China to stop/ shutdown shipping the chemicals to the drug cartel in Mexico.

In 2022, 73,654 people died from a fentanyl overdose[1] in the US, more than double the amount of deaths from three years prior in 2019.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration took aim Tuesday at the fentanyl trafficking threat, announcing a series of indictments and sanctions against Chinese companies and executives blamed for importing the chemicals used to make the deadly drug. Oct 3, 2023

As far as i know about this incident, it's not like the guy got into an argument at work, rushed over to the gun store to by a AR and some ammo and then came back to shoot up a bowling alley where his boss went after work.

If anyone wants to make a meaningful impact to stop this sort of thing, on an individual level at least, then consider concealed carry as often as you can, practice your draw (timed), and boost your situational awareness

I went back to carrying everywhere the law allows. All this crazy as of late has made me bite the bullet and go back to a high cap 9mm from the nice, comforatble little .380 that i had been carrying occasionally.

Know your state's gun laws. If not prohibited by law, then the "no weapons" signs posted outside of businesses and other places are only suggestions unless it also includes a metal detector an other security. I'd rather have a business owner point to a sign and tell me that i need to leave (has never happened) than be facing an armed person will ill intent who didn't give a shit about that sign either.

Edit: Fixed typo

Seems like it's being allowed on purpose. The question is why? THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA.

Massive unchecked illegal immigration and drugs at the southern border as one facet of a multi pronged attack. Attack from within. Traitors to the US installed in positions of power orchestrating.
Are you posting from under your bed in the fetal position???
