"My god, I am actually shocked how many smart people on this website think the Gaetz nomination is some clever ploy to get him out of Congress or set up a second, less extreme nomination.
Are you guys still this thick? Trump picked Gaetz because the first time he was elected his own FBI and DOJ investigated him, and then after he left office Biden's DOJ investigated him, and he wants to stick it to the "deep state" and get a loyalist inside a department that has "wronged him" for eight years.
This isn't complicated. That's his view. He is throwing the grenade in to see what happens. This is how he governs, for better or worse.
Do I think Gaetz gets through? I have no idea. Probably not. But Trump is DEFINITELY going to try. He is not tee'ing Gaetz up to get thrown out and he's not just going to fold the nomination because freaking Susan Collins feigns upset. I can't believe we are still doing this, genuinely. It would be an incredible coup for him to have someone like Gaetz leading the DOJ. He's going for it.
This isn't a ploy. It's not chess. He's showing you his move and saying "bring it." He's testing the boundaries. They will appoint him if they can. Same with Tulsi and Hegseth."

I am 100% glad trump is potus. No question in my mind he was the better option. However, Gaetz is a terrible appointment. There is a reason almost no one has come out with enthusiastic support for him and why even some trump supporting senators have been less than enthusiastic when asked about confirmation.
I would love for this to be a slight of hand where trump is sending him out to be a sacrificial lamb to get others through, but I just don't see that being the case since he resigned from congress. I guess trump could be holding a lesser appointment for him, but that doesn't play to well for Gaetz take a lesser appointment after not being confirmed for AG.

He will be confirmed as a recess appointment as payback for the lawfare against Trump. DOJ needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Democrats had their turn and now Maga gets their turn. Can the DOJ get any worse? They raided a former Presidents home and sniffed Melania's underwear. I Think Gaetz will do just fine.

The DOJ being terrible and needing an enema has zero bearing on if he is qualified. All of those things could be accomplished, likely more easily, without an absolutely terrible and unqualified person as AG. It's a joke.
Defending everything trump does just because he did it is asinine and destroys credibility. Trump makes mistakes just like everyone else. This is one of them.
