Matt Gaetz: "Withdrawing My Name" From AG Consideration

Gaetz has never been a prosecutor has he?

From 2009 to 2016, Gaetz argued at least seven cases at the trial level in Okaloosa County. (For part of that time, Gaetz was serving in the Florida House, but working as a lawyer is not unusual for a legislator; Florida has a part-time Legislature, so it’s common for legislators to keep day jobs.)

The seven cases in court records ranged widely in substance. In 2008, Gaetz represented two separate clients for speeding tickets. In 2009, he represented a local restaurant, the Crab Trap, in a workers’ compensation case. That same year, he began representing a local aircraft maintenance company that was pursuing a negligence case.

Starting in 2009, he represented Okaloosa County in a civil case against the city of Valparaiso. In 2010, Gaetz represented a client over a money dispute of less than $15,000. And in 2016, he represented a client involved in a custody case.

Oh boy, dude seems totally qualified.
What are we doing here people?

But, but, but....look at the video above my post where he yells at the middle aged professor. Qualified.

Owned the libs is the only qualification needed. Says the party about to be in total control. It's so weird, do I laugh at how they've never been able to hold Trump accountable to anything, or do I just laugh at how it may dawn on them what an unaccountable president can do?

You have to really question a political movement within a party that is traditionally focused on accountability, where the movement is all about not being accountable. But I guess just get your popcorn and enjoy the show. Will they hate Trump like they hate Bush in retrospect years later? Does it even matter?

I'm a bit surprised more people aren't talking about his lack of legal experience (which I get doesn't matter to MAGA, but have to think it matters to many Republicans and will matter to a lot of senators (if they actually get the chance to weigh in....)). As I understand it, the man practiced law for a whopping two years at a tiny firm in north Florida (and you are completely swimming in your first two years), and then became a state house rep. He then continued to "practice" for another 6 years until being elected to the US House.

You can't practice in a meaningful sense while being a member of the state house--maybe at a sub 10 person firm (where he maybe tried 9 cases over 8 years), but not at larger firms doing higher profile work. But even if you could (and the 9 case record isn't correct), the nominee for AG has at most 8 years of experience as a trial lawyer at a tiny law firm---let alone has never held the position of a prosecutor.

This is objective inexperience. But, to hell with all of that, let's put him in charge of representing the US in legal matters.

If Trump forces this through with heavy handedness. We might see two outcomes:
1) The press (or lack there of) will cover his inadequacies while MAGA loyalists dismiss them as fake news.
2) Trump's new favorite anchor, whoever that is at the moment at fox news, criticizes the guy and he fires him.

Theres always the possibility that Trump reconsiders the appointment. But if we are considering that, why is Trump nominating him in the first place?
Im betting at the end of the day its loyalty. Which as a leader is important. But if of your loyal fellows, Gaetz is the top gem for AG..... whew buddy hey Trump voters, whats up with that?

Gaetz (surely) and Hegseth (most likely) are just the sacrificial lambs for the benefit of the rest of this unqualified cabinet to allow the Republican Senators to save face. Can't wait to see who Trump's preferred candidates are for AG and Defense Secretary. As the MAGAs say, buckle in! DEI is bad--glad we're fixing that with unqualified (mostly) white men that bend the knee.

How about an educated response? Ignore Hegseth. Please tell me how Gaetz is qualified for AG? I'm willing to ignore the House investigation and the alleged improprieties. Educate me, please, on how he's qualified professionally for this position.

Did you forget you voted for Kamala? Why would I give you an educated response with your hypocrisy?

Because I asked you for any professional qualifications that justify your support of Gaetz as AG?

She wouldn't have nominated a guy that practiced for somewhere between 2-8 years.

ignoring the fact that the women have confirmed Gaetz slept with her when she was 17.....
How's this dude qualified for AG? Its a simple question.

He was improperly targeted by the justice department. Just like Trump was. Now they are in charge. If all the investigations were above board, there is nothing to worry about, right? If they haven't done anything wrong, why do they care if Gaetz is AG? There will be no one to target if everything was done by the book.

Elon threatening to fund the primary opponent of any GOP senator that doesn't vote for Gaetz.

We love our billionaires forcing our elected officials to do what they want, don't we folks?
Didn't hear you complaining when Bezos, Gates, Soros were doing their work.

Democrats are mad that Republicans are competing on their turf.

This will be a win for the American people. Billionaire's will compete to please We the People. May the best ideas win. Elon won round 2 (Soros clearly won round 1) by committing to support personal liberties and make the government more efficient. What will the Democratic Billionaires do to try and win our votes next cycle?

Bezos/Gates/Soros have explicitly said they'll primary any senators that don't vote the way they want? I'd be interested in seeing that evidence.

It's okay to say you don't really care about corruption since your "team" is benefitting. No one on here has ever mistaken you for an honest person.

Lol at thinking billionaires are doing ANYTHING for the betterment of the average citizen. You are impossibly naive if you think that.

Gates regularly donates to and openly supports Democrats with his $$$ and words.

Props to Soros, much like he found the mispricing of the British Pound, he was the first to recognize their was an arbitrage opportunity in local politics. He continually funded political races at the local level to get prosecutor's friendly to his ideology elected. This of course lead to certain policies, like no bail in Chicago, and other soft on crime prosecutors. It also undoubtedly lead to the Defund The Police movement.

Bezos owns the Washington Post and supports democrats regularly in many different ways.

So, spare me any complaints about Billionaires. Elon is just playing the game better than the other Billionaires. Maybe Defund The Police and Soros' soft on crime prosecutors weren't what the public wanted. Or maybe he will double down and try harder to get his people elected to office so that he can have outsized influence. Let them compete and We The People can decide.

Either way, its good that people are waking up to what's going on. More accurate and truthful information for voters is a win for We The People.

Gates has donated to Republicans and Democrats in the past. He hasn't donated to many republicans recently since your brand of politics is disgusting, but that's a different topic.

The same Washington Post that wasn't allowed to endorse anyone for president, leading to multiple reporters/editors quitting?

I'm not complaining, just pointing out the hypocrisy of the "we the people" nonsense you dullards constantly spout while also bootlicking the world's richest man who is a terminally online goober.

You didn't sell that Tesla stock did you?

I generally come down on the side that Trump deserves the cabinet that he wants, people that he trusts will be aggressive in furthering the agenda that got him elected. I get that Gaetz might not have super strong legal chops., but how much does the AG actually do hard core lawyer stuff and argue cases as opposed to establishing priorities making policy and go-no go decisions and administering the DOJ???

Bro, a minor was sexed by him. It was a scandal, so an investigation took place.

YET AGAIN, MINUS THAT WHAT ARE HIS QUALIFICATIONS FOR AG? Are you all so dense that your grievances have blinded you to that question?

His qualifications are that he was improperly targeted by the DOJ for years. That is enough for me.

If he was supposedly so innocent, then why were the pubs so hell bent on the refusal to make the ethics report public.??
Personally, i'd like to see the report released in the name of transparency. However, I do believe this was politically motivated, so if they want to tie the release of this report to the release of the list of sexual assault settlements paid by taxpayers I am fine with that. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

I do understand the counterargument though.

You had an extremely aggressive DOJ, going as far as to raid Melania's underwear drawer, and they investigated this claim for 2-3 years and no charges were brought.

In this country you are innocent until proven guilty.

Matt Gaetz is currently innocent and should be treated as such.
