Matt Gaetz: "Withdrawing My Name" From AG Consideration

Well, not AG material but definitely qualified to headline the Democratic presidential ticket 😳

Sorry...just having a little fun with the notion that she is "universally regarded [...] as being as dumb as a box of rocks". She may well not be invited to join Mensa anytime soon, but I'm going to need something more than that.

The last guy was beat up for lack of experience--among other things. This one at least has experience. Still, if you don't like Trump, I fully expect that you won't like most of his cabinets picks.
Not entirely, I liked plenty of his cabinet picks in his first term. Tillerson, Mattis, Kelly, Haspel, just to name a few. I don’t think he’s going to get any quality experienced personnel this time around and is only going to appoint sycophants. It’s my opinion you need to have intelligent and experienced people in these positions who aren’t afraid to push back and provide insight when they hear a potential bad idea from POTUS.

to make a comparison; hiring a bunch of under qualified jabronis to positions of power is how Clemson went from being a dominant CFB team to getting blown out by Duke in week 1. It just reeks of similarities to what Dabo did with our program - but maybe that’s just my neuroses firing off

The only place to may be going wrong is underestimating Trump. I find myself making those same mistakes--even now. I shared your exact same concern wrt whether Trump could fill out a cabinet with the way he publicly excoriates those he has a falling out with. It a large part of the reason I did not want thim to run again and why I voted against him in the primary. But this guy has proven me wrong at nearly every turn. While I am at least a little reserved of some of his picks, namely Geatz, Hegseth, Oz and RFK, my track record on such matters indicates I should put a little more faith in Trump. But just a little. I put total faith in no man.

I'm struggling to understand this. Do you have examples?

On Trump outperforming expectations?
  • From the start, none took him seriously. I certainly didn't. And I definitely didn't give him any chance of getting the nomination. The media mocked and ridiculed him at every turn, but he persevered into the Rep nomination.
  • When the Access Hollywood stuff broke, when he made the countless harsh remarks to various popular figures, with the Megyn Kelly/"blood coming out of her whatever" quip....
  • and running against the Clinton machine....not way he wins, right. Right.
  • Russia-gate, Stormy Daniels, humiliating loss to a guy everyone knew was little better than a drone and a complete slim ball running a campaign from his basement, J6 and a media front entirely united against him, multi-count felony conviction, inner circle cannibalism, etcetera....who survives that to even run again, much less secure the nomination?
  • A pivot to a 2nd opportunity to elect the first women president, and a women of color to boot, together to yet another fully united media front eager to not only carry her water, but to help reinvent her and pretend she was not an atrocious Vice President...
This list is really much, much longer. I thought this guy was finished at every turn and was certain he did not have a clue what we was doing. As Trump might say himself:
Donald Trump GIF by reactionseditor

The guy is a lot of things, but he is no dummy and he is no quitter. He is going to see to it his agenda is carried out no matter who he appoints.

One cannot be a fool and and somehow repeatedly out-maneuver his supposed betters. To insist on such is a contradiction, and contradictions do not exist.

I guess those are just out performing polling or support expectations. Whereas the post you were referring to seemed to be talking about something different. The conversation seemed to be about making hiring decisions that shockingly ended up beating expectations. So I was just confused. He has absolutely outperformed my expectations in any of the elections, but any of his support is confounding to me, so I'm not the best gauge there lol.

While I am largely behind his agenda, I am not a fan of his delivery and I too am confounded by his continued (and apparent increasing) support.

I guess I did set that earlier post up as if I were saying his cabinet picks outperform. If anything they all seem to underperform, but it's Trump who persists--and that was my point.

I went back and edited my earlier post with the snarky "buttercup" comment. I rushed that last line. I do usually try to avoid coming off like a jerk.

I try very hard in my communication here as well, likely not always successfully, but I've found that once you start escalating, then it just becomes an attack the other sides most extreme position contest (whether the person was making any of those points or not), rather than actual discussion.

And yes, his support does always over perform. Agree on that. Just haven't seen him making hiring decisions that I think overperform, and don't expect that here either. I expect he will this time hire sycophant's that say yes to everything, will drive away career gov't officials that have worked under many administrations and with them a whole lot of knowledge, that there will be significant scandals and leaks from within, and that depending on how big the scandal is and how much of a sycophant the person is, Trump will either fire and say horrible things about them, or he will double down and blame someone else or claim its lawfair, etc.

It is a bit interesting that Gaetz says he will not be returning to Congress. He really doesn't want that report released, huh?
Yeah. Wow. The report is going to get out, you can count on that...but not sure what's really going down here.... 🤔

I thought the same thing. I honestly wonder if this whole nomination was an excuse for him to get out before it was released and killed whatever future he has.

There is some pretty strong evidence that he at least was hiring very young girls for sex. I would imagine that there is some really unsavory stuff that while it might not be totally illegal, also looks really sleazy.

The thing is, we could probably hurl insults and invective at one another in attempt to score board cred, but the reality is we are probably largely in agreement on a good many things--even if we identify with completely different parties or candidates.

To be sure, we certainly disagree on some things (e.g. I think lawfair is a thing and is quite dangerous--but I suspect you don't disagree there, you just maybe disagree with the extent that it may or may not be true in each and every case brought against Trump).

Good with all of that.

You really want a pedophile to have a visible role? Dude literally paid young girls for sex. He hasn't even tried to say he didn't, just that they were 18.
18 or not, it's enough for me that he patronizes teenage prostitutes even if they are above the age of consent. This is absolutely morally repugnant all all levels.

This is assuming of course that any of this is true.

Agreed. Not much very redeeming about Gaetz from most accounts. To hear other Republicans say he went around the floor talking about using Ritalin and ED drugs to stay up and party with young girls is pretty shocking.

My Mom is a strong Maga and lives in Florida and hates Gaetz.

That's all innuendo yoshi. Why would the commie controlled doj not charge him if they had a case at all?

Loving the Pam Bondi choice to replace Gatz

If the lizards in DC were afraid of Gatz they sure got way more than they bargained for

Pam Bondi is an ANNIHILATOR

She is going to destroy the Fake Americans and Deep State

Thank you all of the folks that have soiled their drawers on Gatz because with Bondi you will have a bag to catch the crap soon

Yahoo Trump Tiger Blood tastes good and Winning is wonderful

trumps performance on cabinet picks means you should have faith in him? No man has fired as many cabinet members in 4 years. What makes you think he changed? He ran on being more of what we got last time.
