Talked to people this morning to get the temperature on where things stand with the possibility of Jim Knowles leaving Ohio State for Oklahoma. We’ve told you since the beginning that this was simply mutual interest and it could fall apart as quickly as it developed. And I know you have a lot of people that have tried to take this all the way to the finish line.
That has not happened.
But here is what we can tell you. This has gone from mutual interest to Brent Venables working hard to land Knowles as his defensive coordinator.
Knowles has had many chances to tell Brent “no” but that has not happened yet.
It is expected that Knowles will coach in tonight’s game and make a decision this week. Maybe even earlier than later in the week.
There are plenty of rumors of offers to Knowles out there. And while we haven’t confirmed an exact offer or a term, we do believe OU and the donors are on the same page of doing everything they can to make this happen.
If Knowles decides to turn it down, I’ll give you one more name of interest before Brent would just shut it down and offer the LB job to Wes Goodwin and take over the defense on his own. It’s not a big name. But when you see the resume, it makes some sense.
