I'm really worried about what's going to come in the aftermath of this trial. The entire George Floyd tragedy is filled with far more falsehood than fact. Most people are completely unaware of the realities of the case. When the likely acquittal of Chauvin occurs, I fear the reaction we will see. Our country could be so much better prepared for this if we had actual facts instead of feelings related to this matter. Just consider the following list:
1. This is presumed to be a racist murder by a police officer. But there's absolutely zero evidence that this was, in any way, a racially motivated event. It was long ago assumed racist and that's what's going to come through in this. It's a shame we didn't recognize early on this wasn't necessary a racial situation. Especially considering the substantial amount of evidence around the nation that this method of restraint was used against white suspects and black suspects alike.
2. The knee to the neck restraint used is unacceptable to me but it was a generally accepted use of force by the police department in Minneapolis at the time. It wasn't some outlandish event at that time.
3. George Floyd has a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl in his system. The entire video paints a very different picture that what we saw during the painful period when he was being retrained with a knee to his neck.
4. Chauvin is charged with murder but that wasn't murder. He's never going to be convicted of this charge. Only a lesser charge has any chance of conviction. I think many will find that highly frustrating and who knows what the result may be.
Bottom line is narratives over facts are everywhere in this case. It's something that's torn a hole in our nation and I fear it will do so even more in the near future. So much about this has been falsely portrayed and inaccurate assumptions have been allowed to become presumed facts. There's a lot to fear here...
