Media Starting to Call Race for Biden

Nothing to see here.

Ok.

Just a thought. People are raw from this election. No idea why some jackasses want to rub it in or be obnoxious to those whose side won. None of this helps anything and it's just sad to see. Trump lost. Biden won. Shit happens and we can remember this and move on.

I look forward to the day, if it ever happens, where this country actually does feel united again. No matter the outcome of this election it still feels like it was not going to get better soon. I hope that changes. Republicans and Democrats right now feels like Israelis and Palestinians.

That about sums it up. I'm afraid we're going to be seeing that go to an even deeper level soon if we don't get a grip.

It's really difficult because the parties want materially different things and some of those are kind of mutually exclusive.

Speaking only in generalities:
  • Democrats want to provide healthcare for everyone, Republicans don't if the government is involved
  • Democrats want to do something about climate change, Republicans either think it's fake or the "cure is worse than the disease"
  • Democrats want a more democratic country, Republicans don't
  • Republicans value "religious liberty" over freedom from discrimination
  • Democrats think government can do good things, Republicans don't
  • Abortion
I mean the list just goes on. And honestly, I have a really hard time sometimes thinking of people who vote for Republicans as being good people. I know and love many Republicans and I know they don't actively want for things to be bad. But it's difficult when I see them constantly voting for things that are (in my opinion) just going to make the world worse.

I would argue you're really not correct in your assessment of how Republicans feel about a lot of these things.

Republicans don't want the government involved in healthcare that is true. And that's for a good reason. The government doesn't do anything well. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. So yeah, I guess you're right about that. We can provide the best healthcare in the world without much government involvement. We just need to be willing to dig in and work together. It's not even a complicated solution.

Religion liberty is freedom from discrimination. That you don't see the two are one in the same is a big part of the problem.

I believe in climate change. I don't believe in the solutions proposed. And the fact is green energy solutions we have now aren't green at all. They are toxic and destructive and really no better than our current situation. It's not that we don't believe (Though I know many do deny it so I can't speak for all) it's that we want better solutions than the ones put forward and the FACT is that the United States is not and will not be the primary polluter/emitter of greenhouse gases. Any solution that doesn't start and end with China and India is no solution at all. The Paris Accords don't do that.

What's a more democratic country? I want freedom and liberty at all costs in all things. Democracy is two rapists and a woman deciding if they're going to have sex. It's George Wallace, Bull Connor and MLK deciding if blacks will have equal rights. Democracy is tyranny and oppression. It's mob rule! We are not a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic. I want to live by our founding principles and adhere to the tenants of our founding documents. Republicans want freedom and not government control of everything. It's hard to fathom how people think government control is democratic in any way.

As to your last point, the right to kill babies is no right at all.

I would end with this. Better be careful how much you poke the bear because if it is awakened, people on the left won't know what hit them. People are sick and tired of being labeled as racist or not good people, etc. by the folks on the left. I'm not a gun owner and I don't ever advocate for violence. That said, I can tell you that if the people that want to be free and left alone get angry enough, we're in for pure hell. We've taken a lot of steps toward that tragic end of late.

As for you, @FLaw47, You've got some pretty inaccurate views of people you don't agree with. Maybe you should endeavor to understand more and judge a bit less.

You didn't disagree with a single one of my points.

Edit: You literally outright agreed with my point or said that the democratic position had no value.

Yes, I did. Hard to get much clearer than to say I believe in climate change. I just think we need another approach. And it goes on down the list.

I explicitly cited the "cure being worse than the disease" and it sure seems like that's your view of the current cures. I'll repost:

  • Democrats want to provide healthcare for everyone, Republicans don't if the government is involved
    • "Republicans don't want the government involved in healthcare that is true. And that's for a good reason. "
  • Democrats want to do something about climate change, Republicans either think it's fake or the "cure is worse than the disease"
    • Cure is worse than solution is a pretty fair descriptor of what you're saying.
  • Democrats want a more democratic country, Republicans don't
    • "Democracy is tyranny and oppression "
  • Republicans value "religious liberty" over freedom from discrimination
    • "Religion liberty is freedom from discrimination. That you don't see the two are one in the same is a big part of the problem." I don't think that businesses should be able do discriminate on the basis of their faith. That's a legitimate difference.
  • Democrats think government can do good things, Republicans don't
    • "The government doesn't do anything well "
  • Abortion
    • "the right to kill babies is no right at all. "
