Swinney Camp Insider VI: PM update

CLEMSON -- The passing talent from the morning did indeed clear out for the afternoon session of the Dabo Swinney Camp.

But that presented no correlation to the pass defense talent jumping out.

Two defensive backs stood out to this observer Thursday -- both in strong contention for offers.

Dallas Goldin and Deuce Edwards

The first is a name we've already previously highlighted in Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep's Dallas Golden.

Golden (6-1, 175) is listed as an athlete by the network, and he's been discussed in the industry as a safety.

But for us, Golden is a corner, and one who ticks the boxes.

He's not quite as tall as a Nate Wiggins. But he has a similarly wiry frame and is more advanced than Wiggins at this stage as far as footwork and transitions. Superb hips.

Yes, please.

Which might be why Alabama, UGA, LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M and South Carolina all tossed in offers during the spring evaluation period last month, too.

This after Clemson brought him in for the April spring game.

The other corner who snagged our attention was Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal's Terrance "Deuce" Edwards Jr.

Edwards (6-1, 175) might have the same listed measurables, but they are constructed quite differently.

He is more put together and the one you'd consider a potential safety on the eyeball test.

Tennessee and Penn State offered earlier this year, joining Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Virginia and Ole Miss among his suitors.

One to keep an eye on.

Defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin got a look Thursday afternoon at a linebacker in consideration for an offer.

Culpeper (Va.) Eastern View four-star linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh worked out upon arriving on campus.

Clatterbaugh (6-2, 220) snared offers in the spring from Ohio State and Notre Dame to go with Penn State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Virginia.

He comes across as your central casting inside 'backer type those schools have traditionally pursued.

================================

As we referenced earlier, Clemson boasted some name recognition at receiver in the morning session with Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School four-star Cameron Sparks and Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic four-star Koby Howard among others.

Truth be told, Pembroke Pines (Fla.) West Broward four-star junior receiver Joshua Moore might have been the best looking wideout on the hoof.

But a minor leg injury suffered early precluded him from participating in any competitive drills.

Moore (6-4, 180), ranked No. 177 in the country, cites offers from Florida State, Florida, UGA, Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Michigan among others.

================================

**** Lake City (S.C.) four-star defensive tackle Amare Adams remained on campus into the afternoon and spent more time watching the session as he and a support staffer made their way back from a campus tour.

**** The best running back of the two Swinney Camp Days would go to Rock Hill (S.C.) Northwestern senior Turbo Richard, who worked out today.

Richard (5-9, 190) accompanied about 50 teammates to the camp.

Compact, thick through the lower body -- he's built like the classic old-school running back. Richard has an official visit scheduled to Boston College next week. Wake Forest is also involved.

**** As we foreshadowed, Clemson dispensed an offer after lunch to one of the morning's campers in Highland Home (Ala.) junior defensive end C.J. May.

Defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall also phoned in one for Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley four-star Bryce Davis -- the first two defensive end offers for the next class.
