But admittedly I do get a chuckle reading and hearing the wishlist from cooter fans. Patterson, Gundy, Rodriguez, Petersen...and even Bob Stoops! I guess time ran out for Lombardi and the Bear.
I have a really good friend who's connected with the SC BOT folks, and he said that Spurrier has already privately reached out to Mark Stoops of Kentucky (with Tanner's approval). That makes plenty of sense based on the need to find a spot for Spurrier Jr. to land. The same source said that hiring David Cutcliffe would achieve the same goal.
I'm confident SCar won't hesitate the throw the big money around. After a Holtz and Spurrier, they've learned to bask in the perceived glory of associating itself with aging legends. But imo, while either Stoops or Cutcliffe would be an upgrade to an aging HBC, neither presents a long-term problem for Clemson.
I think Fuente, Mullen or Campbell would be more formidable on the field and recruiting trail. What say you?
