I'm just not crazy about sweet meat (and trying to eat less sugar) and if you try some of the popular places around SC without the sauce, the meat has a great flavor but isn't sweet. eg. Carolina BBQ in New Ellenton. Their plain shredded meat isn't sweet at all but I can't figure out what ingredients they must use for the rub. It has a great taste without the sweetness.
