I don’t care but you have to rename a lot more than anything named after Calhoun. I just showed you what Lincoln said about his belief in the difference between the races. He has to go too. So does George Washington. Really every founder of this country has to go and be erased from history.

Frank Howard field may have to go too. He called African-Americans, “Indians”. Howard’s Rock too. We can call it the “Unity Rock”.

Pretty sure they didn't erect statues of or name anything after Hitler and Himmler years after the war ended...

lol but you can visit the site where millions where incinerated. They could have covered it with a shopping mall.

Are going to take down MLK statues. There was many confirmed rumors that he was a serial adulterer. He who is without sin, cast the first stone- JC

I think we should tear everything down that is now offensive which includes burning any books that would now seem offensive. The only way to go in my opinion. I could start by burning Of Mice and Men in my book case whole bunch of usages of the n-word in that one

I’m going to have to burn all my fruit of the loom undies since loom has a bad connotation.

Of course not, this country would be burned to the ground if that happened. Just go burn churches and bibles. That’s a better target for today’s agenda.

Rename Calhoun. Rename Tillman. Remain whoever needs to be renamed. We have way better individuals that have graced our university that we could name buildings after and actually be proud of it.

Okay, this needs to be said. I’m not sure why this is so hard for people to understand. It’s very puzzling why some of you would want our university, a place that we all love and cherish to have buildings associated with pro-segregationist and folks who advocated for the lynchings of African-Americans.

Some of you want to cheer for us as long as we’re scoring touchdowns, but just forget about our humanity or how it feels for us to walk around a campus that is supposed to be “inclusive” for all of its students and staff and not just to some. These buildings should’ve been renamed a long time ago and this shouldn’t be a discussion, but here we are in 2020 deciding on something that should be common sense.

As a former Clemson student-athlete, these are conversations that we would often have amongst ourselves in our locker rooms and dorms. This is not a new issue. The rest of the world is just now catching on to how we feel. I’m glad athletes and coaches are using their platforms to bring awareness to these issues. And I dare you to say-we shouldn’t attend, if we feel that way. Just think long and hard before you utter that nonsense.

That doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that he’s right on this issue.

Yes, he is right. I agree. I'd feel the same way if I were him.

Do we rename ever street, building etc throughout the country? And take down every statue?

Does the Democrat party have to go away, or at least change their name since they started the KKK, black codes, Jim Crow, segregation, etc.?

I am just asking, because that seems to make the most sense.

What do you want to rename the university? If you go this route then “Clemson” has to go too. See how damn silly this shit has become.

Also, congrats to Nuk on being a part of the honors college. I was nowhere close to being a part of it. Didn’t even know it was named after Calhoun.

Naming an institution after someone is not history, it is honoring their legacy. His name should not be attached to a public university.

So what do we want to rename Clemson University since Thomas Green bought slaves from his uncle John C Calhoun?

Y’all need to quit.

I don’t like Fort Hill either because it has negative connotation to war and I’m a lover not a fighter. What can we changed that too?

I am an olde and I love my traditions, but change it.
It's time to stop offending new generations in order to honor long gone generations.
Set up a museum to honor the individuals for their contributions in creating the university
and those who don't want to have to deal with it can avoid it.
I for one will "Let it go"

Ewww, Death Valley is scary sounding. I’m offended by that. Can we copy Penn St and call it Happy Valley?

It’s exactly the same thing. Ask a Jew.
These places actually remain in place to honor the millions of people that lost their lives in the camps. It has absolutely nothing to do with honoring the Nazis.

Nuk and others feel that having our honors college named after a slave owner is wrong. These men were on the wrong side of history. They should remain in history books of course, but to hold them in an esteemed place of honor is just plain wrong.

Maybe you should head back under your bridge, because it seems as though you just want to cause friction rather than have a civil discussion.

Slippery slope arguments should be given little weight, and rightly so. No one is trying to rename the university, the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C., etc. Calhoun’s name and legacy speak for themselves.

For those in favor of removing John C. Calhoun's name from the honors college, I'm curious what other names you'd be in favor of removing from the campus. Since Thomas C. Clemson was John C. Calhoun's son-in-law, trusted advisor, and moved south to join the Confederate Army, would you also be inclined to change the name of the university? I'm not being critical or sarcastic, just asking for honest answers.

I should go live under a bridge Yet you want to have a civil discussion.

real civil.

Huge difference between renaming something that was named in the 80s and renaming a university that was named after the man who donated the land for the university right after he died.

I don’t think anyone seriously wants to rename the university.

I don't really have that answer off hand. We have great Alumni that have gone on to represent our university with great integrity.

Just spitballing here but what about the Haley (Nikki) Honors College. Some people will probably be pissed about that suggestion, but again I don't claim to have all the answers my man.

Good question for a civil discussion though.

I’ve got no problem with that. Let’s be fair though. Take down everything from the past, the least bit offensive or controversial. That would include MLK and Lincoln. They had sins as well. Lincoln was a Republican and I’m admitting this. As a proud black men, it does my heart good to be honest.

I never said to go live under a bridge. I said you should return to yours. Maybe you aren't familiar, but in fiction a troll is someone that lives under a bridge and won't let others pass without paying a toll. A troll toll if you will.

Sorry I offended you. Thank you for your service sir.

The current environment is not the the permanent nor future environment. History is history.

What's the saying? Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it..

It’s illegal to display a swastika in Germany. The Concentration Camps do not glorify nor honor Nazi Germany. You’re argument is dog shit.

Nah because I’ve been there. Lived there for years. You think racism is bad in the United States? Head to Germany and hang out with a few Turkish immigrants for a week.

You think Germans promote these sites existing in their country today? Fvckin clueless.

Give it time... One day city names will be renamed, monuments of our founders like Washington and Jefferson taken down ... and defaced in our history books. It will happen, they’re slowly moving in that direction. I mean years ago nobody would’ve thought they would literally be dismantling/defunding police departments in some of our major cities.

I’m not offended bro. I’m glad we have the right to our opinions and can express it freely. I just wish everyone wouldn’t get so offended when you don’t agree with them.

I’m not against removing or renaming anything. if it’s for the better, sign me up. I just don’t want to forget the progress we’ve made during the process.

I just want everyone to be happier in life.
