OT: Chris Kyle

Watching Ice mess with y'all is quite amusing. This SWU guy is next level pissed.

Dude was a hero that did things none of us could comprehend. Doesn't mean he didn't have ego issues or wasn't a liar.

It's a trend for Ice. I think it's poorly timed that's all.

I will also say some medals that were basically verbally awarded never were physically awarded.

Not at all saying this is the case with Kyle but someone close to me was told they were going to receive a silver star for work done in Afghanistan and that medal was never awarded by the government. He doesn't like to talk about it so I have no clue why or how it went down.

All in all...the soldiers who are in combat deal with a lot of demons and and not much mental help in place to help them through them.

When the movie came out Chris Kyle was exposed for lying trash. He claimed he shot two guys in a car jacking that never happened. That lie made some one else's book as a true story then was investigated by the cops. He also claimed the CIA had him sniping looters on top of the super dome after Katrina. He claimed people shouted baby killer and held up signs we he came back looking for pity. Videos of his home return show the opposite. Kyle had a lot of other lies listed as well. There is no way this lying piece of crap snipped all of those people.

Go move to Canada.

His discharge papers confirm his medal count. I'm sure the papers could be wrong, but he obviously had reason to believe the medal count he claimed.

Also, he isn't here to defend himself. The 'investigation' is in really poor taste. And they posted his article around memorial day?? Please, let's let him rest in peace.
I tend to agree with this.

He had 160 confirmed kills...you do realize he's not the one confirming them right? Yes he lied about some stuff, but I'm glad that dude was on our side. Have some respect for the deceased man and take your politics out of the equation.

It does seem strange that he had some trouble with the truth. Repeatedly. He was and is an absolute American hero. Alpha male. But it's almost like he wanted to keep building the legend bigger and bigger. I don't know. Strange.
I would think that if you'd been through what he had been through, saw what he saw, you probably would have some trouble with a lot of things mentally, IMO. Im sure you're just different and probably not the same person. And most certainly different than anyone who has never been in a real war situation, much less a Sniper who had a very high kill count. They are very different people and it takes a special breed.

Semi on topic.

Did they ever sort out the issue with his wife not paying the people he promised to support. Is she still collecting all the royalties he publicly said he never wanted and wanted them to go to military families?

Kyle is a flawed human being like all of us. There is good and there is bad, neither one takes away from the other.

He's a hero. He's also a liar. Those aren't mutually exclusive. One doesn't replace the other. They don't wipe each other clean. They don't cancel each other out. It's just who he is.

You can be multiple things in life, there are no absolutes. You can be a hero. You can be a liar. You can be a great husband. You can be a bad person. You can be a good businessman. You can be a thief. Nothing is absolute. People are just a mixture of good and bad(hopefully more good), but neither replaces the other. They don't go away. There aren't net positives and negatives. You just are what you are.

All good points.

looks like he might be a bit of a liar.

from two silver stars and 5 bronze stars in his book and movie

to

1 silver star and 2 bronze stars in reality.

He straight up lied about 4 medals, and was told by members of his team and superiors to correct the record, and he chose not to. The stolen valor community is normally crazy up in arms about anyone who does this.

“The SEAL leadership was aware of the embellishment, but didn’t want to correct the record because Kyle’s celebrity status reflected well on the command.”

And, in case you didnt know, this isnt the first time Kyle lied about something (we all lie, but his are very public). He claimed that he punched jesse ventura in a bar in California, a claim a jury determined was a lie, and awarded ventura almost 2 million in damages (that his wife is appealing).

Does this impact your opinion of him? fwiw, i think he is a hero and should be celebrated, regardless of the false claims.
I seriously doubt that you think he's a hero & should be celebrated...

You're a flaming liberal which pretty much explains why you felt the need to come post this here...

Kyle was a hero & has earned the right to rest in peace...

And Jesse Ventura can suck donkey balls!
