OT: Dabo's statement on turning down the award from the PFC

If you google "Dabo gay" these are the headlines that come up:
Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney raising money for anti-gay organization
Clemson's Dabo Swinney attending fundraiser for anti-gay ... www.si.com
Dabo Swinney Set To Appear At Right-Wing, Anti-Gay Group

clearly the spin machine was waaay out of control here. At no point was Dabo "fundraising for an anti-gay group" but this was the message that was getting out. I totally believe what was in Dabo's statement. I also believe that this group awarded Dabo this award at least in part to milk the publicity off it. Good for Coach Swinney for getting off this ride as fast as he could, because it clearly was not going to end well.
Good point. You never know if these groups are using the person more than really "awarding" them.

Actually, when you agree to accept an award from an organization like this, and they are using your name to sell tickets to an event, you are raising money for that org.

I think Dabo thought this award was based on his work and not his beliefs. Good foresight to just go ahead and nix the thing from Dabo's side. I literally hate the PC Police. I swear they allow people to be given every idea and never allow a person to come up with their viewpoint. I know we have people that are far right and far left on here. That is cool. I also appreciate the people from either side that have views and reasons that point to where they stand on topics. You know where people actually think for themselves. The PC POLICE take the whole idea of a person actually coming up with a mindset out of the equation.

Thank you. Is it hard to read Dabo's statement and believe he is telling the truth? Is it far fetched for him to have believed initially that the foundation was being honored for its work? I don't think there is anything PC about this unless that's what you want it to be so you force it in there. Some of you are unbelievable and take any chance to pick a fight. A bunch of scared Pussies is what you are (Christ has indeed risen).

Dabo is so far on record as to what he believes, more than any coach this side of the planet and now people want to say he is somehow backing down. You incompetent, prob closeted, clowns(He is alive). This group whether you believe or support this group or not, made a clever play and it almost worked. Using someone who is on record as supporting their views for the most part and parlaying that into some type of pseudo support was brilliant. However it didn't work. Dabo doesn't need an extreme organization to promote his belief in the Word. His life, his works, and most importantly his confessing that he believes is more than enough and you people acting like he's somehow being beaten are pathetic (praying the Blood of Christ over all of you, be healed).

Congrats to Dabo for not feeling pressure from SOME of you clowns and your backhanded compliments. His statement taken at face value makes a ton of sense and couldn't have been written better by a man who has never hidden his beliefs. Amen brother. Christ is indeed alive and reigns supreme. Friggin idiots! God be with you.

Funny, we just had a thread about how Barker caved into "media pressure" when he banned the team from a bowl after the brawl. He was perceived as an idiot for by fan base for doing this. Yet, this is the same situation and Dabo is praised. They are the same exact situation and are perceived different. I guess that is where bias comes in, but people are too blind to see it.
If you believe those situations are the same and/or they were handled the same... you're dumber than I thought.

It's a group that is very active pushing/lobbying for legislation in support of their views.

It is not wise for Dabo to participate with politically active organizations like this. He is making the right call.

Yea, and it would not surprise me if this group was in bed with the politician that was so adamant to bring this "invitation" out. CINO "Cristian in name only" rings a bell.

So what is the difference? A decision was made based on public opinion, whether it was minority or majority. I personally believe they were both minority but the public backlash was just too much to risk. Just because you like one person and hated the other doesn't make the situations different.

So, if it's minority in your world it's wrong. I've never really liked your posts and I find it funny that the Dabo homers are, in their own way, all upset with this. And, y'all are likely the majority.

Oh, and America is a republic, not a democracy. Read up on this, it's kinda fun.

Not once did I say I agreed or disagreed with either situation. You are just assuming, and you know what it does when you assume. In another thread it was said that Barker was anti Clemson because of the ban of the bowl. I just pointed out that he had no other choice. I NEVER said that I agreed or disagreed. And I was just saying that the Dabo situation was the same. I NEVER said I agreed or disagreed it.

I just pointed out that, just like this board, a vocal minority seems to be a majority. And again, I said I thought both of those that were against the team going to a bowl and against Dabo getting the award were the minority. Never said I agreed or disagreed with them.

The only thing I am guilty of is not being clear in this sentence "I personally believe they were both minority but the public backlash was just too much to risk". I should said "I personally believe they were both minority but they must have felt public backlash was just too much to risk." But go ahead and assume, it gives you something to attack others about.

If you received a humanitarian award from the Robert Mugabe foundation I would advise you not to take it. He said he wasn't trying to make a political statement & it turns out that accepting the award did. He didn't know about the organization & it turned out to be a hassle that he didn't need. It would be different if Dabo offered support for an organization, then fall out ensued, and he back tracked. He had no affiliation with them prior to receiving this award.

Nobody forced Dabo, he just realized it was stupid to be viewed in the same light as that organization. No need to try to create a victim here...

using the words "that organization" says it all.....as far as your thoughts / position. But then again we all knew that.

Are you sure it's a minority? And why do keep bringing up Barker? You brought Barker up in this thread, no one else did. Vocal minority, please, always a cop out. And, you seem just fine to attack others as well. But, I guess it's the fault of TI. Never knew those that speak out were deemed "vocal minority."

In another thread people were bashing Barker because he gave into public pressure. People were praising Dabo because he gave into public pressure. The way it was perceived was whether the person was hated or liked. I do think the vocal minority are against Dabo getting an award. That minority may become a majority at some point. I guess the reason I felt it was a minority is because the last time gay marriages came up for vote, it was voted down. I never said I agreed one way or the other.

So, if it's majority it's ok? My goodness, you Dabo homers must be in a ball of emotion. And, who brought up Barker in this thread? And, who gives a flip? My apologies, but talking to you is like talking to a child. Dabo made his decision, it's over, has little to nothing to do with Barker or the homers that wanted Dabo to carry their form of Christianity. Sorry bro.

i have no idea what this whole thread is about but a bigger problem for all of is...........balance the budget. Show me a politician that can do this.

Majority, Minority, split down the middle, I don't personally care.

I don't understand where you are missing it, I wasn't for or against this situation or the Barker situation. I am like Switzerland in these situations. I was just pointing out how people had double standards.

Any chance that what he said is true? He actually believes what he said and he wasn't responding to public pressure one way or the other? Maybe, just maybe he actually thought and believed what he said in his statement and realized what might be going on. He hasn't shown a pattern of backing down based on his belief but you accuse him of this now. Honestly read his statement and imagine for a second he might be being honest. Hadn't he earned that much?

I think it is true, but basically he said the backlash he was getting was too much and he had bigger fish to fry and didn't want to interfere with the team. Sometimes you have to choose your battles, and he is choosing his battle.

You are still making assumptions. He didn't say what you said. He said what he said. He thought someone was honoring the foundations work. Probably wasn't even concerned. Just another award. Until he realized someone was trying to use him and he's like wait a minute. I don't know these people and i decide what i want to support. I'm not being roped into anything. Now he is in a weird situation either way. The dude has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Great statement that is plausible. I'm making assumptions as well to be fair. Mine are based on his history in not being afraid to stand up for what he believes even when the odds don't look good. I doubt he runs. He's too strong in his conviction but he's not going to be hijacked. His name and all.

You quote the vocal minority, say they have ultimate power but then say you're Switzerland. Funny, the Swiss were "neutral" in WWII but let the Germans fly over their space, the Allies, not so much.

I don't understand where you missed the 6th grade.

Where is the uproar for Ray tanner, the AD at the largest public university in SC to give his award back? Tanner accepted this groups invitation, his name was used to sell tickets (fund raise) and he accepted the award. Where r the internet campaigns and the public out cry?

No one gives a damn about Ray Tanner whereas Dabo is a public figure who evokes some type of emotion (either positive or negative) in people. With the social media the way it is now people are ready to pounce on the very openly religious football coach from Clemson University. They are just waiting for the opportunity to bring him down. Show the world he isn't perfect. Glad to see that he was able to disappoint them again.

Yikes. Insert shaking head GIF here.

So, I am guessing that by not attending, he is turning down the award. I don't read anything where he specifically turns down the award.

No, Dabo doesn't get a pass here. He has caved to the media pressure about simply receiving an award when he has nothing to do with the association. Shame on Dabo. This is a bad decision on his part. He needs to man-up and quit letting these folks outside his program strong-arm him into poor decisions.

Poor decision?

Liberals speak of absolute tolerance, unless you're not in total agreement with them. In that case, they have zero tolerance. What a bunch of hypocrites. Thousands of the gay, signed a petition to have Dabo removed as a speaker. Wonder if Fab Tiger was one of them?
