I love his music, and the sort of “bitter southerner” thing him and the DBT had going on was at least interesting, even if I didn’t agree. But unfortunately he’s become more and more obnoxious about politics.
Looking forward to it. Always liked the guy. Southeastern and Something More than Free were elite albums. But, man it feels like he hasn’t been the same as a writer since getting sober/leaving DBT.
His new single is absolutely horrible. Sad to see the woke mind virus ruin somebody’s career. Reminds me of Howard Stern.
Examples? I haven't followed him as closely the last couple years, but certainly did for a good 5+ years before that...seeing him play live 3-4 times. And I don't recall much of anything political coming from him.
Maybe it’s just because of when he played or where he played, but he launches into stuff every time I see him.
You obviously don’t or haven’t followed him in on Twitter. He also some pretty politically charged songs on the last few albums.

Never said that song was woke. I just said it was bad. There is a general decline in his music as he has gotten more radical politically. I was a big fan of Southeastern and Something more than Free. Noticeable drop off after that.
That's what he insinuated. Not that any stock should be put into someone who judges music based on the musicians tweets.

Ironically, I agree with you on his music not being what it used to be. However, I'm aware most musicians careers have an arc to them.

If anyone thinks Jason isbell or the drive by truckers are only recently liberal, you are showing that you were not paying attention before. Nothing about those guys politics has changed in 20 plus years.

Agree that he's on the way down but when he was great he was great
I’m aware. I think his peak as a writer was somewhere during the DBT days. (God damn lonely love. Decoration day.) Those two albums were still very good. What’s followed has been far far from that level. And, I still really like the guy. Puts on a great live show.
Very talented guy and have followed his career…seen him several times. But I still say in my opinion that new song is quite terrible by his standards.
Those guys were not shy about being vocally anti George W and anti republican in their shows back in 2003 and 2004.
Most MAGA republicans are anti George W now.
So many musicians, at some point in their career will delve into their political stance through their music…so what. It’s their music and we can choose to listen or not.

ADVICE: don’t let 1 weed keep ya from seeing all the flowers, and Jason has grown them in spades

Southeastern is one of the best records recorded in the past decade. His daily webcasts during early Covid were one of the few bright spots during that time too.
