OT: Jon Stewart is Back, Baby!

Yep.
If you can’t handle Stewart/Maher, then you aren’t ever looking for proper dialogue.

It’s why I champion NewsNation, OVERALL it’s an attempt at honest dialogue.
Maher too often speaks like an expert about subjects on he's not even qualified to speak like an amateur. He loves telling parents of children how they should raise their kids and respond to their kids on things, all while having no kids of his own.

I don't put Bill Maher and Jon Stewart on the same level. Stewart is genuinely informed and interested in effecting real change. Maher just wants to bitch, and he's informed enough to make jokes imo. He relies too much on his Cornell degree to justify any takes he might have.

Jmho.

I really hope Comedy Central and Jon Stewart do the smart thing and make him the permanent host again post haste!

It’s all about perspective on what you’d view as a contributing members of society.

I place honest Free Thinkers at the top. They may be brilliant, they may be dumb, they may talk out of their ass to work their way through. But at least they aren’t bought and paid for constantly spinning an angle.

Whether I or anyone agrees with them is irrelevant to me. Do they make you think? Or are they doing the thinking for you?

So…. if everyone at least met Maher’s level of broadcast, would we be better or worse off?

Sure, that’s not some sort of standard to aim for. But it’s better to have his voice than not considering the entire bunch that’s shilling for a party/position, CONSTANTLY.

Where does the truth take you?
Or
Let me tell you the truth.(Faux/MSNBC)

No argument from me. Relative to 99% of what's out there, I'll take Bill Maher. But I don't think he can have the kind of positive impact Jon Stewart can on public discourse. And maybe it's just a character flaw of mine, but I can't get past his smugness to find him truly worth listening to.

At least he's become more open minded over the years and not so closed minded as he used to be. I actually enjoy watching him one on one these days when he has meaningful debates with people on either side.
Actually met him in Miami many years ago and in person he's very accommodating and gracious, I expected him to be more stand offish than he was.
He has a damn good show and really does a great job when I've watched it. I like to see diversity of opinion in a panel type setup. And he has become more open minded and is willing to call out issues on both sides.

I understand exactly what you’re saying about Maher. But I respect him because the facts have allowed him to draw different perspectives and conclusions. How many people actually display this as a “smart adult”?
Not many.

I leave my ego at the door if I know your straight up with me. Otherwise, I’m gonna be smug too. I’m not defending Maher as I am explaining him.

Many New Yorkers are just this way. Let’s get to the point. Be square, if not….. good luck to you.
