What are your thoughts on the controversy? Should she have been fired? I think it's ridiculous. She was talking about a Halloween costume. Get over your racist BS, NBC.
And I'm no Megyn Kelly fan.

Well, most reasonable people understand that dressing up in blackface is offensive and has historically been used to portray racist stereotypes. What are your thoughts on the controversy? I’m a white male over 50, so I don’t have any cultural sensitivities, am not capable of discerning white privilege, and am, of course, rich. I can’t take a position one way or another without being attacked as some kind of “-ist”, so I’ll just hang up and listen. I apologize in advance if this post offends anyone.
Defending the premise of a white person dressing in blackface (be it a Halloween costume or whatever) deserves whatever consequences come with espousing that amount of insensitivity and ignorance.
Apparently so.Is it OK for a black to dress up like a white person? ( and use white face)

Hahaha, you are so stupid.

All of us chatting nicely and thread goes to die in RT. No rhyme or reason what stays and what goes.

I fvcking hate you.
As a general rule, I’d say no.Is it OK for a black to dress up like a white person? ( and use white face)
From the outside looking in, it seems like she was simply referring to a benign Halloween centric costume tradition. Not a mockery of any sort. So in that regard, maybe it’s been blown out of proportion some. And also a ratings and money hemorhaging issue. Which makes NBC look self serving.
But, Halloween can be the crutch used with intent to mock or stereotype things as well. It’s not all about ‘honoring’ whatever it is that’s floating your boat that particular year.
as usual, i think the results of human fallacy are extreme which leads to the disagreement of the results being equally extreme. I am not African American. So i can’t remotely say what I think that means to me if i were. It probably offends some and doesn’t offend some.
I also find It a little disingenuous though to tell NBC to just ‘get over it’ when, for example, you’ve demonstrated an inability to just ‘get over it’ when something that shapes your identity and/or own agenda is threatened.
Perhaps take this as an opportunity to educate yourself and then you might better understand the sensitivities. Is it OK for a black to dress up like a white person? ( and use white face)
Not disingenuous at all. I'm passionate about my beliefs.

But I also think this kind of question completely disregards the historical context of the use of blackface.
So NBC is racist now? Lol.
They play the "racist card" just like all the liberals do. Very frequently.
I think you and I have different definitions of what “racist” means.
NBC is part of the liberal media. They all act like they hate America. If you don't agree with me you're a racist, bigot, etc etc. etc. Megyn didn't say anything wrong and she apologized. It's such a freaking double standard and I'm sick of it. Guess what? She's fired and getting paid her entire 69 mil contract. Hope she tells them to kiss her white a$$ on way out the door.

So you position is that blackface is ok??
Just trying to get clarity.
You know better than this, @amynhop . The dressing in blackface thing has been around since the 1800's, and it has been racist and offensive towards blacks the entire time. Its not about someone dressing in a Halloween costume, its about making fun of a race of people, and coincidentally its about one that was legally enslaved in this country and then segregated for a long time afterwards.
Some of your conservative positions have merit, but this is one you should let go.
Oh, and as others said, no doubt NBC used this controversy as an excuse to cancel her low ratings show.
This isn’t racism from NBC, it’s capitalism.NBC is part of the liberal media. They all act like they hate America. I heard one person suggest that the only black person a white person can imitate on Halloween is Michael Jackson ... don't have to use blackface for him.As a general rule, I’d say no.
But I also think this kind of question completely disregards the historical context of the use of blackface.
My thoughts on the matter are strictly based off what Megyn said. She said "isn't it ok for a Halloween costume?" And she wasn't condoning any costume that would cause racial division. I'm sure she was talking about dressing up like a black athlete, entertainer, etc. Very innocent. How was she in any way making fun of a race of people??? That's asinine.
This is one of those loaded issues that you have to understand the backstory before you dive in. You cant just separate it and say "oh, its ok for Halloween costumes" but ignore the other stuff. This goes way back to the blackface and mistrel stuff that has been going on for over a hundred years. Go watch some of that stuff and see how racist it is and then you will have the context. If you dont then I dont know what to tell you...
I can't separate it and say, It's ok for Halloween costumes?" Says who? Oh, I can and I did. I'm sick of all the what offends me today, BS. There is a lot that offends me and there ain't a damn thing I can do about it.
