OT: Megyn Kelly

The larger part of society says so, that's who. The same way I have to comply with the larger parts of societal norms if I want to get things done in some cases. But as you're doing I can choose to fight it.

In this case society is choosing to send a message that they reject this behavior. I'm not a fan of overwhelming political correctness but some are trying to mix human decency with political correctness. Unfortunately decency has become a choice and not the norm in everyone's lives. People would rather fight for their right to be nasty.

What's wrong with a little empathy and compassion? In some cases ti doesn't cost a thing to choose decency. Black face is horrible and has a horrible history. Some get away with it but that doesn't make me want to do it because some can. The N word is horrible but some get away with using it for whatever reason. Guess what. Even tho some can get away with using it I'm not going to argue for my right to use it if I'm not in that group. Why in the hell would I even want to fight for that? I'll use my fight for other more worthy things. Same thing. Why fight for this here? This is born in ignorance and hate. Let it die. But it's your right. But it's also your choice.

The larger part of society says no??? Not sure about that. I believe the larger part of society says don’t take a knee for our anthem, too. Just going in circles, here. I have my opinion. I’m a good person. I would never intentionally hurt anyone unprovoked. Meaning I will defend myself if necessary. You, nor anyone else on this board will make me believe Megyn said anything wrong. Not ever. Period. And it certainly has nothing to do with hate!

You're right. The larger part of society says kneeling is wrong and that's why Kaep doesn't have a job. Just like you he can choose to go against it. It's his right and your right. Like I said you can keep fighting for the right to wear black face or for someone else to wear it. I won't fight for rights based on hate. Blackface has a hateful beginning and has always been hateful. Just because you didn't know doesn't make it less hateful. Once I realize how hateful it is I can choose to not do it. But I don't have to. I can fight for my right to continue no matter what the history is. So I don't disagree with you. I was just trying to explain why people were upset.

Despite our differences in opinion, I truly believe you don’t say anything out of hate and are a good person. However, you have to acknowledge that there are people on the far right who say and do these kind of things with hate and prejudice in their heart, and these people are becoming more out in the open with their hate and are attacking anyone that doesn’t agree with them as “politically correct”. So don’t get upset when you get swept up in the “they” that are being called racist.

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Step 1. Start thread asking for people's opinion on a subject.
Step 2. Become increasingly angry as people share their opinions.
Step 3. Claim you are being "attacked" as more people share their opinions.
Step 4. After thread reaches 2 pages, claim that nobody can change your mind, no matter what. Thus begging the question, why did you start this stupid f*cking thread in the first place?

This is one of those loaded issues that you have to understand the backstory before you dive in. You cant just separate it and say "oh, its ok for Halloween costumes" but ignore the other stuff. This goes way back to the blackface and mistrel stuff that has been going on for over a hundred years. Go watch some of that stuff and see how racist it is and then you will have the context. If you dont then I dont know what to tell you...

I can't separate it and say, It's ok for Halloween costumes?" Says who? Oh, I can and I did. I'm sick of all the what offends me today, BS. There is a lot that offends me and there ain't a damn thing I can do about it.

What offends you is not on the level of the historical plight of black people in this country.

That’s just reality. And I guess if you disagree with that premise, the whole argument seems absurd.

White people painting their face black, even if it’s not intentional “blackface” (ie the type used in minstrelsy shows), recalls a horrific practice and system of racist beliefs. That’s why, generally, it’s best to steer clear. It’s not about being PC... just trying to be a more empathetic human being.

Well, that’s quite the statement, that you will never believe what Megyn said was wrong.

Person: “It should be okay for people to put black face-paint on. It’s innocent fun.”

Society: “it actually recalls a period of history where black people were considered unintelligent animals and property.”

Person: “ah, makes sense. I was wrong. Not innocent fun.”

That would seem like the normal exchange here...I really want to try to understand where you’re coming from on this.

Have you listened to her? She was talking about a Halloween costume. She meant no malice. Let's make something out of nothing.

Absolutely! She meant no malice. I totally agree.

And she apologized for it, so she’s recognizing her mistake. But I also think that that’s a pretty egregious mistake to make. People who are out of the public eye can afford to learn on the fly. In NBC’s eyes, that ignorance doesn’t reflect well on their company. So, they cut her loose.

Doesn’t make Megyn a bad person or a racist...just not the right person who NBC wanted to place in a prime time slot as a member of their network.

You think she apologized because she thought she did something wrong? Or because it was obligatory? Aren't we all glad we don't have a camera taping everything we say off the cuff?

How do you know when I'm angry? Can you feel it through the Internet? When did I claim I was attacked? Quote it. You love to make up shvt. That's your MO. Is the purpose of a thread on a controversial matter to change someone's mind? As usual, you're batting zero.

If her apology was forced and wasn’t sincere, then I think she’s willfully ignorant. I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt that she recognized how the position she took carries significant historical context.

And sure, hypothetically, I’m glad that’s the case, regarding being taped (while at the same time, I like to think I don’t say offensive things about people.)

But I’d also like to think that if I’m speaking to a national audience on camera, I would avoid saying something offensive to a people group.

And by “offensive” I mean a statement that exhibits an amount of blindness towards an act/system of evil (American slavery/minstrelsy).

I clearly posted OT- Megyn Kelly. You should have assumed what it was about unless you live under a rock. How about don't open a thread if you aren't interested? Especially just to criticize.
Apologies Amy, I meant to clarify the gif by saying that Mrs. Kelly needs to say less things, but then the phone rang, I hit post and forgot to go back and edit my post.

Where I agree that people are overly sensitive, talking about “black face” should be either met with “it’s terrible” or you just nod and agree and it is terrible.

The crazies on the left are as you said.....crazy. You said give example of the hate that are on the right. Are you serious? I can point out thousands on both sides, the left and right. Do you really believe there's one side with more hate? The Republicans don't get to decide who aligns with them and neither do the Democrats. There are crazy free agents out here choosing both sides whether the left or right wants them. You are so wrapped up in your side that you literally said give an example of hate on the right. Wow. Just wow. I can literally just say the klan but I don't want to make it seem like the Republicans chose them.

I'm just happy to see that so many people in here do get it. You don't have to have compassion for others. You are choosing to be compassionate, empathetic, understanding. And it's not easy. It's actually easier to just do whatever you want disregarding other people and just doing what you have the right to do. Thanks to you all that make that choice.

Appreciate it. No worries.

I’m a white male over 50, so I don’t have any cultural sensitivities, am not capable of discerning white privilege, and am, of course, rich. I can’t take a position one way or another without being attacked as some kind of “-ist”, so I’ll just hang up and listen. I apologize in advance if this post offends anyone.
lol well played.

This is a direct quote from your previous post.

First off, if you did some research, what you’ve just posted has nothing to do with NY’s sanitation Dept. They didn’t sanction it and are acting to dispose of them. (pun intended). So, if you want to get offended by a rogue loony, so be it. It’s also an example of combatting the lowest common denominators by reducing yourself to a lowest common denominator too. I hear Talk about all the ‘winning’ being done by Trump. Congrats, you are contributing to this person ‘winning’ as well by platstering it on a form of social media and going off the rails because of it. I’m
Sure that person is saying I love seeing those ‘Pub tears’. Each side acts the same freaking way and no one is willing to recognize it.

Secondly, you jump to some conclusion that ‘this is allowed’ and a double standard in a discussion about Megyn Kelly and NBC. At worst implying these signs are an NBC thing and they are allowing it. At best implying that it’s some other entity with concern about its bottom dollar and it’s consumers and them opting to allow it also.

Thirdly, in this example, you say you’ve chosen to be outraged or offended. But let’s break down the distinction in the face of this ‘double stabdard’. You are being challenged over a choice you’ve made. A choice to be a trump supporter. A choice to be a Christian (i believe God assists that choice however). By making those choices, one has reasoning, life events, knowledge, experience to support those choices and subsequently well equipped to defend your choice. If you can’t, then why did you chose it in the first place? And you could easily opt out of its too much to bear.

Compare that to someone being born, not by choice, but their parents choice. And being born a minority. We’ll use African American since this is the example started here, and the largest minority in the country. I won’t even go back to slavery (it’s atrocity isnt hard to grasp) but can just go back to an era such a short time ago in history, that some on this board were probably already alive. When being black meant subservient, Inferior and segragated over being born a different color than the governing majority. No opting out when it was and in some instances, still is, unbearable. We can all thank ‘the libs’ for at least governing our way out of that astonishment. But you can’t assume that governance also Eradicated the hurt, the lack of trust or whatever else you want to add, out of a race of people. The only way to do it, is with some sort of compassion, understanding and empathy. That’s not a handout. That’s humanity. Drawing a hard line in the sand saying ‘get over it’ Or ‘I’m sick of it’, is terrifying actually. Giving Grace, empathy, understanding to anyone else costs nothing. It doesn’t devalue anyone. Unless of course, someone is too far sunk into identity politics that giving that costs them everything. that’s too scary a place for lots of people to go. So we hear ‘what about me?’ All the time.

So long time oppression of a race, who had no choice in being born one way or another and being touchy, sensitive or offended, is not the same thing as being offensed because you chose to support Trump or be a Christian. It’s just not. You can call it a double standard if you just want to dig in to preconceived notions.

But even Jesus said Christians would be pushed and challenged. He didn’t say beware, republicans will be tormented by the democrats. So why are you surprised or even worried or angered about some sign some loony put out there. Or some opinion that has zero bearing on your existence?

A loose example of A double standard would be if ‘the left’, let’s call ‘the left’ NBC, had someone standing in the voting line making jokes to the women in line that they should be back home taking care of the kids or fixing dinner. Just a little harmless fun at the expense of a gender who didn’t choose to be born a female who should just be lucky that they were given the right to vote, by that ‘liberal Woodrow wilson’ I might add. And if they get mad, tell them to just get over it. And then NBC allowing him to retain position. Choosing sexism over racism.

When you approach it this way, what are you really sick and tired of? You’re constantly in some sort of fight with yourself and who you identify as. So day by day, it reads like you’re really sick and tired of yourself. You have the choice to be at peace with it. It’s not ‘the libs’ ‘job’ to shut up.

This coming from someone who is not ‘a lib’.

Great response but Amy is incapable of understanding well thought out logic.

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Step 1. Start thread asking for people's opinion on a subject.
Step 2. Become increasingly angry as people share their opinions.
Step 3. Claim you are being "attacked" as more people share their opinions.

Typical Amyhop thread. She's even losing her white knights. Like a gas lighting by proxy or some other f'ed up s$/@.

I think Amy has more in common with far left loonies than she thinks she does.

You all should leave @amynhop alone on this one. I'm a moderate in normal circles (meaning a loony lefty here). And I actually agree with Amy here. I went and googled the show and the context was clearly about Halloween stuff. If this were a single incident, I'd give Kelly a full pass.

But it isn't. Kelly has made some controversial statements before... the most famous being that Jesus was white... which he CLEARLY was not. I do give her a pass on Santa being white... given the European roots there, that's safe to say... But she's also said a couple of borderline comments about white police officers shooting unarmed black men.

When you do something like this once or twice, I can write it off as a mistake... when you do it 4 or 5 times, it's a pattern. Kelly is not a "regular" person. Her words carry more weight as a member of the media and are looked at more closely. She has to be well aware of this. Kelly is either really careless with her words or there is some truth to these allegations. Given her history of these types of remarks, her words on blackface were STUPID STUPID STUPID. A smart person wouldn't touch a racial issue with a ten foot pole right now. I don't for a minute think that she said them on purpose or with malice. She had too much to lose (and she lost it).

As I said, I'd give her a pass on this one, but I can't really find fault with the folks that fired her either (she's obviously not capable or keeping her foot out of her mouth).

What about the crazies on the far left who have nothing but hate in their heart? There are far more of those. Hate America and want to destroy anyone who doesn't agree with their ideas.
As a conservative I am telling you, both sides have them and in roughly the same number. Don't fool yourself into thinking only your side loves America. Both sides love America, they just have different ideas of how to do what's best for America.

I abhor the ideals of economic socialism but I'm not going to demonize the other side, I'm going to try and educate them and debate them.

For the record I am not a Megyn Kelly fan but I think her firing was a bit ridiculous.
