I purchased a piece a property with a gigantic white oak tree that I want to preserve. The problem is that there's an old house that I'm going to demolish very close to this tree. In fact, some of the house is within the drip line of the tree.
I've already told the guy demolishing the house that I need him to keep the heavy equipment outside of the drip line. I have planned to have him excavate the footings and I'm worried this may be a mistake since the footings are within the drip line of the tree. My guess is that I should leave the footings in place and just cover them with dirt. I've read online that White Oak trees can be sensitive when it comes to their roots. I assume that applies to 60+ year old White Oaks as well.
If you know a thing or two about this, please share.
