OT: Outback Server Fired

I've never tipped for takeout. But I've never had someone bring it to my car.

Even then, I'm not sure a tip is needed. For an order that big, it prob makes sense to leave a tip. Of course, never smart to rant on social media.

Yeah, that's my thoughts. I don't want to tip for takeout necessarily, but I have begrudgingly. An order that size should have..... but you absolutely do not go on social media complaining about it.

Hope you and your dad left a generous tip on your girls day out manis and pedis.
We did.

As to the topic at hand. It was an order for a church. Aren’t churches supposed to be known for their generosity? Also, the order was $735. That’s absurd. That size order deserves a tip regardless.

I generally tip 10% - 15% or so on take out, recognizing there is some work to prepare it. I don’t want to be on a list somewhere the next time I order.

15% to walk up to the register at a place like PF Changs and pay for your food?

That fired waitress will be a part of the #MeToo movement in short order.

Lol how does this get round tabled and the other dozen OT threads don’t?

She deserves what she gets!

I waited tables for a brief stint. It’s pretty much a rule to not complain directly to a customer or publicly about a customer for not tipping. Tipping is not mandatory. I’d say her being fired is justified for doing it in such a public way.

At the same time you’re a dick for ordering that much and not tipping even with it being a curbside pickup.

Both were wrong imo.

Why are people fired on first offense? Whatever happened to 1 week suspension without pay before getting to termination stage? We really have become a nation of overreaction, exaggeration and overstatement for every little thing.

The server should be punished. Fired? Nah, unless it's stated that complaining about customers on social media is a terminable offense.

BTW, 15% - 20% for takeout is a bit much. I'm a 10% - 15% guy for takeout and mostly 10%. Plus, boo on the church for not tipping. I'm sure it was a mistake by the church and I doubt that the pickup person was prepared to tip $75. Also, The church should never accepted the free meal in response to the facebook post.

What if.... We actually paid servers a wage and didn't make it a tip based franchise.

I do admire restaurant owners for making customers buy into the concept of being responsible for their pay.

I hear a lot of "We would go out of business" if we had to pay a wage".

Horsecrap.

How would people react if duke power expected the customer to tip the lineman? Or Wells Fargo expected the customer to tip the guy who writes your loan? How about tipping the mechanic at Wal-Mart? There would be outrage if the mailman or UPS driver expected a tip because the company refused to pay a decent wage.

Thread got booted. No rhyme or reason to this dang place.

I’ve said this many times on TI. I see threads that are extremely political or other OT arguments with folks at each other’s throats (myself included) REMAIN on TWZ. I truly believe the mods only move things they don’t like, even if they won’t admit it. No one arguing with each other ITT and it’s moved? That’s quite laughable...

I liked Amy's publix thread but maybe somebody complained. I come here for off topic threads.

I like the OT too. The Publix thread rocked. Should have never said it wasn't true. I might as well take my football and go home if I can't post OT threads.

Church should have tipped due to such a large order. She shouldn't of complained on Facebook. Not sure why everyone shares everything about anything on Facebook in the first place.

Don't you hate for people to air their dirty laundry on FB? So absurd and sad. Have several people I'd unfriend but it's too dang funny what they post.

I absolutely agree with the termination. A company policy was breached in a very public way which obviously was her goal. The waitress deserved a tip -- and had that been me paying the bill she would have received one. But several things go against her taking the action, the company policy being only one of them. First, the church contact who paid the bill might not have felt obligated in any way to pay a tip. Who knows the circumstances? It doesn't sound like the waitress questioned the purchaser to determine those details. And what does she mean by everyone is expected to pay a 15% tip? My personal position is that a waitress or bartender has provided 100% attention to my dining needs. When I tip more than that, it's because service has gone beyond "ordinary" to "exceptional". I find that to be the case about 50% of the time and gladly kick in extra. Lastly there's zero correlation between the customers being a church or whorehouse for that matter. If common sense dictated a tip was due then someone at the church should have paid one. The waitress should have also followed company policy regardless of situation.

I only use it to stay in touch with friends and family. If you start posting stupid stuff you get deleted. Some of it is funny but more times than not it's just sad what people put out there.

Six consecutive OT threads were atop the board. As usual, when that happens, we ship them here. We're not going to let OT threads dominate a sports board.

We encourage them, post 10,000 of them, but we prefer that most of them are here on this board. We're fine with them on The West Zone board so long as they don't swallow up the board. We're not going to let them swallow up The West Zone board, not even in the off-season. Doesn't matter if it's about Publix or Mickey Mouse.

We have to do this a lot more in the off-season. It'll probably happen again in a few weeks. If there's a logjam of OT threads on The West Zone board, we have to basically move the whole cluster. It's just a housekeeping issue. We don't have a choice. We're not denying anything. We're just moving them here.

A few isolated OT threads on TWZ are not a problem.

Several OT threads have been booted now. But John's dang pedicure and mom making cherry turnovers or whatever is still up. SMDH.

I understand, Chris. Thanks for letting me know.
